Spotted on celebrities including Lizzo Anne Hathaway and Florence Pugh, the shade everyone is obsessed with comes straight from Barbie’s own wardrobe.
While Barbie has always had an impact on fashion and pop culture, her popularity has skyrocketed since the announcement of the new Greta Gerwig Barbie film.
As the movie’s release date nears closer, it’s quite a coincidence that many major fashion houses around the globe have decided vibrant pink is the new ‘It’ colour and have begun producing countless chic designs in the hue.
It’s not entirely unexpected though, Valentino in particular is obsessed with the shade since early 2022 and the brand’s huge pink platform shoes have become one of the biggest ‘It girl’ styles of the season.
Before we knew it, Barbie updates were flooding our social media timelines and high fashion runways were inundated with fuchsia – and thus, Barbiecore was born.
Celebrities were the first to pick up on the trend, donning hot pink ensembles and plenty of Barbie-style sparkle for red carpets and A-list events around the world.
Just look at Zendaya’s hot pink suit, Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls premiere outfit, or any of the Kardashian sisters’ Instagram posts and it’s easy to see that pink is the new pink again. Fashion, it’s cyclical, people!
As the Barbiecore trend takes hold of the fashion world, expect to see plenty more pink on the runways, red carpet and your local shopping haunts.
If you want to incorporate the trend into your own style, it’s as easy as adding a pop of hot pink and a bit of sparkle.

“The main theme? More is more — and you can never have too much pink,” reports Beauty Crew. “When it comes to fashion, the vibe is essentially dopamine-dressing in fluorescent pink and as many sparkles as you can handle.”
Think fuchsia mini dresses, hot pink tights (a la Kim Kardashian) and vibrant pink bikinis when summer comes around.
To really nail the look, embrace plenty of bling in the form of sparkly jewellery, highlight and eyeshadow, as well as your most femme beauty looks and accessories.
Barbiecore is all about embracing your girliness in a positive, empowering way.
