The much awaited second season of Sex And The City reboot, And Just Like That, graced our screens last week. And with the recent news that PR legend and sex positive icon Samantha will be making her return in the season finale, we are taking a look at one of the most lasting impacts Samantha made from the original show.
When Sex And The City took the world by storm, never before had women seen such sexually liberated and progressive characters on the screen. Carrie was an sex columnist and fan-favourite Samantha was a loud and proud lover of all things sex. She introduced many viewers to the fun and flirty world of sex toys, and most notably: the wand.
We spoke to Lovehoney‘s resident sex and relationship expert, Christine Rafe, to discuss all things wands and get the down low on the iconic toy.
“This humorous yet empowering scene [of Sex And The City] not only provided a nod to the wand’s alternative uses but also contributed to its increased visibility and acceptance in popular culture,” Christine told Who.
“From that point on, wands continued to soar in popularity, capturing the imagination of pleasure seekers worldwide. They became a staple in the ever-growing world of sex toys, evolving in design, functionality, and features.”
If you’re new to the world of wands, have no fear – these handy toys are perfect for beginners and experts alike.
“There are so many different and amazing wands out there, it’s all about finding the one that makes you say, ‘Yes, please!’,” says Christine.
“Wand toys come in various designs and functionalities. Some common types include classic wand vibrators with a long handle and a vibrating head, smaller compact wands for travel or targeted stimulation, wand attachments for added versatility and different sensations, and wand massagers that focus on providing deep tissue massage.”
Christine suggests some tips to make the most of your wand toy include light pressure, plenty of lubrication and starting slow to get your bearings.
“Remember, pleasure is a personal journey, and there’s no right or wrong way to experience it. Embrace your desires, be curious, and let your wand take you to new heights of bliss and self-discovery. Happy wand-ing!”
