This boutique Matakana vineyard produces restrained, elegant and textural wines, renowned for their Pinot Gris, Rose and Bordeaux-style red blends. Once you’ve tasted them all in the stunning, sun-drenched glass house, take a stroll along the Brick Bay Sculpture Trail which showcases 50 works by prominent New Zealand artists.

A mere 35 minute ferry from Auckland will take you all the way to Provence, at least that’s what it will feel like as you traipse around the stone terrace of this acclaimed vineyard with a glass of their Syrah in hand. Mudbrick offers cellar door tastings seven days a week, all year round and after lunch in the beautiful bistro and a sample of their excellent Chardonnay you have the option of staying the night in their lux accommodation. Because who wouldn’t want to wake up and do it all again the next day.

Villa Maria

Established in 1961 by owner, Managing Director and industry legend Sir George Fistonich,Villa Maria is the most awarded winery in New Zealand, a title they’ve held for 30 odd years.  Conveniently located five minutes from Auckland airport the vineyard is a lush oasis within the surrounding industrial area and an ideal spot for a luxuriously, long lunch or pre-flight wine tasting. It sure beats the food court.

West Brook Winery

The Ivicevich family has been making wine here for four generations and you can certainly taste the experience in their hand-crafted drops. Take part in a free wine tasting of West Brook’s speciality Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Malbec wines then grab a cheese platter, your bottle of choice and picnic in their beautiful grounds.
