WHO VISITS: Lot. One Potts Point

Is this Sydney's best Valentine's dining venue?

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, which means it’s time to plan your annual date night.

When it comes to finding a Valentine’s Day restaurant, it’s got to be the perfect balance between romance and good food, but not too over-the-top that your significant other thinks you’re going to propose.

For my pre-Valentine’s date, my partner and I got to try out the edgy-chic Lot. One restaurant in Potts Point, Sydney. Located just a short walk from Kings Cross Station – past all the pubs and situated off on a quiet leafy street, it felt like a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

At first glance, Lot. One Seems like the type of place my parents would enjoy – and for good reason. With a list of menu options that make your mouth water from looking at them, the dinner options really stood out as “fine dining”.

Lot. One “offers a modern take of Australian food fused with hearty Mediterranean flavours” which are all curated by head-chef and co-owner Xenia Jade.

Clean, uncomplicated flavors are my passion,Jade says, like our squid and chorizo dish, my own variation of surf and turf! Its the simplicity of dishes like this that make it shine.

With light coloured bricks and low-lighting, the venue has almost a ‘secret underground’ vibe.

Upon arrival we were by co-owner Michael, who recommended a selection of the venue’s best-selling food and wine options. He was warm and welcoming and gave us a brief history of the relatively new restaurant which opened it’s doors in Potts Point in May 2018.

To start, we toasted to a glass of Italian bubbly while tucking in to some warm bread. Then, we tried the Kangaroo Tataki which was actually divine. I’m not usually a fan of kangaroo, but paired with the berry coulis and sunflower seeds, it was more than bearable.

Next, we enjoyed some Truffle Aranchini, a whole squid stuffed with spicy capsicum and chorizo followed by Quail Lollipops.

“This is like, rich person’s KFC,” I whispered to my boyfriend, as it was the only way to describe the delicately crumbed meat.

I was almost ready for desert, but not before devouring the most decadent serving board of a roasted and glazed duck, covered in crushed macadamia and grapes.

Side note: If you don’t get anything else, I highly recommend you get the duck.

We were practically stuffed to our hearts’ content, but no Valentine’s dinner would be complete without a chocolate lava cake to share and Lot. One’s take on a good old ‘Turkish Delight’ – rhubarb sorbet covered in fairy floss for two.

Our desserts are based on four chocolate bars, because lifes like a box of chocolates right?says head chef Jade. Id never seen this concept done in Australia before, and people are just loving it.
