The Block 2026 auction is taking place on Saturday, October 31, and fans have already decided they’re going to boycott the highly anticipated event.

From complaints about there being too much drama to the “out of touch” extravagance, fans have had quite a few gripes this season. However, one prediction that arose during week one of the season has taken the cake.

Simply put, The Block fans are convinced the houses won’t sell.

Speaking to WHO, Buxton Real Estate’s Mark Nunn – one of the agents behind last year’s winning result and the representative for Lisa and Rosco this season – revealed why this season’s contestants have nothing to worry about.

Why do fans believe The Block houses won’t sell?

This year, The Block houses are set in Victoria’s beautiful Mornington Peninsula, complete with water views, and it was reported that Channel Nine paid $11 million for the entire development site.

Houses one, two, three, and four have block sizes of approximately 1,000 square metres, while House five sits at 1,435 square metres.

These homes look and sound like nothing but luxury – hopefully fitting the “bright, white, and light” theme this year – but that’s exactly why fans believe they won’t sell.

At the start of the season, fans commented on social media that “the people last year were set up to fail”, and as the series comes to a close, the opinion hasn’t changed.

“Not wanting to be controversial, but I believe none of them will sell at auction,” one fan wrote online days before the auction. “That’s my opinion, so no winner this year.”

“You would think with the dismal sales they have had in the last couple of years, they would decide it was time to stop the show,” another agreed.

Many viewers have also taken aim at the aerial shots of the houses, calling them “ugly boxes” and “glorified shipping containers”.

“Are you kidding they look like compounds,” one viewer commented.

“Not homey at all,” another agreed.

Real estate expert defends The Block’s housing design

When asked at the start of the season about whether the houses would be too expensive and won’t sell, Nunn reassured WHO that “early indications are that people are interested in these houses”.

“I think that it will go pretty well because of not just the product that they are – they’re beautiful houses – but the location in Mount Eliza, Mornington Peninsula, is a good one,” he said. “I’ve already had people reaching out to me about them and enquiring when they can get through and all those sorts of things, which is good to get early interest in it like that.”

Even when fans lashed out about the early release of the reserve prices this year, Nunn told WHO that this reserve price reveal has actually created “a new energy” that has brought more buyers into the fold.

Chantel and Wyatt, Lisa and Rosco, and Courtney and Sev all have a reserve price of $3,450,000. Adam and Jolene and Rick and Tayla have a reserve price of $3,400,000 after both teams won $50,000 off by winning challenges.

Most importantly, when it comes to the houses’ design, Nunn wholeheartedly disagreed with fans’ “shipping container” sentiment.

“No, I wouldn’t say [they look like that]. They’re architecturally designed and they’re contemporary,” he explained. “It’s a contemporary design. So no, they’re designed beautifully.

“They’re big houses, they have four bedrooms, they have three bathrooms, and they have multiple living zones. They’ve got elevators inside them. If that’s compound-like, I’d love to see compound-like! They’re amazing, amazing real estate. It’s been designed beautifully.”
