Six of the best bars for sunset viewing in Santorini

For those planning a Euro trip.

Anyone who has never been to Santorini is living under the false impression that all sunsets on this great planet are more or less the same. The earth rotates, the sun moves around in the sky, the pretty colours happen somehow (#science) etc etc.

But all of that changes when you see a sunset over the Aegean in Santorinia sunset so spectacular it burns into your memory (and your retinas if you’re not careful). Of course the best way to experience this life changing event is with a delicious cocktail SO, here are six of the best spots on the island to do just that.

Stin iyia mas, y’all…

PK Cocktail Bar

Take your pick from PK Cocktail Bar‘s three sail-shaded terraces overlooking the breathtaking caldera and get stuck into their cracking selection of fresh cocktails. Everyone hails Oia as the place to be for sunset viewing but the main town of Fira has (arguably) the most spectacular a vista.

Franco’s Cafe

It’ll take around a 20 minute climb from the main square of the medieval village of Pyrgos to reach this cafe nestled within an 18th century Venetian castle. However, as soon as you see the view (and get a Mythos in hand) you’ll know it was most definitely worth it. With the classical music and relaxed vibe, Franco’s is the perfect spot to avoid the crowds and enjoy a sunset bevvy or two.

Argo Restaurant

As you take in the holy-eff-is-this-real-life views, best to (also) work your way through Argo’s drool-worthy menu. The Santorini fava, Argo’s specialty patatina and the ouzo mojitio might even be enough to distract you from the stunning sunset for a mo. Despite how fancy the place looks, it’s surprisingly friendly on the bank balance.

This adorable little taverna carved into the cliffside is the ultimateGreek experience – traditionally decorated with white and blue linen, hanging copper pots and reams of dried chillies their speciality is fresh seafood with a perfectly paired vino.

Kastro Oia

Smack bang in the heart of the sunset capital of Oia, surrounded by electric-pink bougainvillea spilling over the iconic white walls of the surrounding structures, Kastro is a must-book-well-in-advance situation and you’re paying handsomely for the jaw-dropping view.
