On Monday, it was ABC’s turn to announce their slate of upcoming programs for 2019. Included in the list were a number of returning series as well as a raft of new commissions. Here are some of the highlights …
RETURNING FAVOURITES
- Hosted by some of ABC’s most popular personalities, Anh’s Brush with Fame, Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell and Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery will all be back on air in 2019.
- Comedy series Rosehaven, Utopia, Get Krack!n, The Letdown and Squinters have all been renewed for new seasons, while drama Mystery Road will also return.
- Water cooler series You Can’t Ask That and Employable Me will keep the conversation going in 2019 with new episodes.
NEW SERIES
- Directed by Rachel Perkins, a Canberra-set drama with the working title of Black B*tch will star Rachel Griffiths as the prime minister, who appoints an Indigenous woman (Deborah Mailman) to the senate in a cynical political move that might just blow up in her face.
- Meanwhile, Will Australia Ever Have a Black Prime Minister? is a documentary that looks at the hurdles for Indigienous people wanting to represent the nation politically.
- New factual programming includes Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds and Love on the Spectrum.
- Documentaries Mystify, which tells the story of Michael Hutchence, and Backburning: Midnight Oil will appeal to fans of Australian rock, while Magical Land of Oz, which will be narrated by Barry Humphries, will look at our country’s overall history.
