Despite being a latecomer to the season, the bedazzled Burger Gal was quick to captivate audiences with her stand-out performances of Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe and Doja Cat’s Kiss Me More, with fans soon growing eager to uncover the voice behind the newest celebrity mask.

While the judges could not get enough of her colourful performance, Burger Gal sadly did not progress to the next round of the competition, with her unmasking revealing Grammy Award-winning songwriter and music royalty La Toya Jackson.

Known best as the older sister of both Janet and Michael Jackson, La Toya is no stranger to the world of The Masked Singer, with the 67-year-old starring on both the American and Spanish versions of the celebrity singing programme.

How did you first become involved with The Masked Singer?

The first time, I was here in America [and] they asked me to be a part of it. I was a bit hesitant and then I said, ‘You know what, I’m going to give it a try,’ and I did it and I loved it. It was the most fun I have ever had. I want to do another one!

You’ve appeared twice previously on The Masked Singer. How was your experience in the Australian season compared to your other appearances? Did you do anything differently?

Usually, when I do [The Masked Singer], I just do one song, but of course, on the American version, I went through the whole course [of the season]. Everybody is so kind and no matter which country I’m working in, everybody is so sweet. It’s great that they have such a great ensemble of incredible workers who are there to support you and nurture you.

How did you decide on your mask?

They had given me a choice of two, and out of the two, I decided I wanted a different one, but they said, ‘You’re American so let’s do the burger.” I said, ‘I’m vegan, I can’t do the burger,’ but they said they would change it and make it a vegan burger.

Of all of the judges’ guesses, only Mel B picked your identity correctly. Were you surprised by the other judges’ guesses?

I find [the judges] tend to choose the same people. They always seem to choose Nicole Richie or Paris Hilton. I was surprised when they said I was Fran Drescher because her voice is so deep! It was interesting because Mel kept getting closer and closer to it, and she said that she could tell by the tone of my voice.

As you were unmasked, you also revealed that your family had no idea you were on the show. How did you keep it a secret?

When I’m doing something so confidential, I really don’t tell anybody. We travel so much so they just thought I was away, and my family would ask, ‘What country are you in?’ and I would just avoid the question. I still haven’t told anyone yet!

Obviously, the other contestant’s identities are still a closely guarded secret, but do you have any guesses of your own about who may be under some of the other masks?

I do! I haven’t seen any of them since they’re very careful when we’re passing through the halls however, there was this girl who has the most incredible voice. She would sing near my dressing room, and I would think, “I know exactly who that is!” Obviously, nobody is going to tell you, but I think it’s Jessie J. Her voice was incredible! Whoever she is, she’s going to win. I’m dying to know who it is!
