Married At First Sight’s Martha Kalifatidis has shared with fans that her family have lost their beloved grandfather.
The MAFS star and mother took to Instagram to pay tribute to her papou, sharing several sweet images alongside an emotional caption.
“Last week my beautiful papou passed away,” she wrote. “I have no words to describe the sadness and heartache instead I want to share a story.”
“A few weeks ago Telstra sent someone out to fix the wifi at my grandparent’s house. Papou had just been to the market and brought home pizza. He offered the technician pizza ‘Don’t be shy, you need to eat.’ The man politely declined so papou went to his garden and potted a small chilli plant so the man could take home because he mentioned he liked chilli.”
“Anyways that was him. So generous. He treated this stranger like an old friend. He spread kindness everywhere he went. If you knew him, you adored him.”
Martha went on to describe her grandfather as “the most loving, caring, sweet, romantic, funny, and (sometimes brutally) honest man,” who “did everything for us.”
“He taught us to live life to the fullest. I miss you already. Love you forever my beautiful papouli.”
Michael also took to Instagram to pay tribute to the great-grandfather of their son, writing; “I’m so glad you got to meet Lucius, but more so that he got to be held by you.”
“I can’t wait to tell him about you, the kindheartherd person you were, your selflessness, your caring nature and your jokes. I’ll tell him how much you loved your family, how dovted you were to ensuring everyone was happy and fed well!”
“I can only hop Lucius takes a part of you with him in life and grows up to have the same values as you did.”
“I’ll miss seeing you every Monday Papou, knowing how happy it made you to see the family together. I know you’ll always be watching over everyone.”
Martha and Michael welcomed their first child, Lucius, together in February and the first time mum has been open about her difficult pregnancy.
Speaking on the KICBUMP podcast, Martha revealed details of her experience with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) which is a debilitating pregnancy sickness.
“HG, it’s no laughing matter. When you’re in the midst of it, you are so sick that you’d give anything to escape it. It’s so hard to revisit those moments,” Martha explained.
“I remember being so sick, thinking ‘I will never forget this, this is the lowest point of my life’…This pregnancy, it was the lowest, it was dark, it was depressing.”
