In an interview with MediaWeek, Channel Nine’s head of content, production and development, Adrian Swift explained that the show had been two thirds of the way through filming when they were forced to stop.

‘The series will begin looking as it has previously, but later in the series it will be different to what people might be expecting,’ he said.

However, despite the change to the format, Swift insists that the shake-up will actually make the show more interesting.

It is believed that some of the contestants and coaches will be taking part remotely when they show airs in May.

In March, The Daily Telegraph revealed US-based coach Kelly Rowland was refusing to travel to Australia amid the pandemic.

‘We have accepted now that for returning formats we need to fundamentally change how we approach and look at the show,’ added Swift.
