Last week, my friend Rachel* told me she had lost her threesome virginity, which is a very big deal for our vanilla friend group. But she didn’t announce it like a scandal or a confession, more like someone excitedly telling you they’d just landed a promotion: proud, shocked and desperate to debrief every detail over a cup of tea.
“I always thought the sex would be the scary bit,” she said while boiling the kettle, “but it turns out the awkward part is everything before the sex.”
Rachel had wanted a threesome for years. Not in a performative “not like other girls” way, but more in the quiet moments that creep in during long relationships with straight men and a growing sense that there must be more than this. After another long-overdue breakup, she found herself single and done waiting for it to “just randomly happen in real life.” That’s when I mentioned Feeld.
“I had no idea that app even existed until you told me,” she said. “I thought it was going to be terrifying, but it was actually just full of very normal people like me.”
All dressed up and no one to blow…
Within a few days, she matched with Maria and Luke, a gorgeous couple who had been together four years and were not new to bringing a third into the mix. They met for dinner at a local Italian… which seemed like a great idea until Rachel found herself practically back-to-back with her ex-boyfriend’s brother and his girlfriend. The world really is too small.
Maria calmed her down: “Trust me, no one would ever suspect what’s going on.”
“I was sitting there eating pasta like it was just… Tuesday,” Rachel laughed.
The conversation felt unexpectedly ordinary. There was no hand-holding or loaded glances, just three people having dinner, talking about art, politics and travel.
They didn’t sleep together that night. Instead, they texted her afterwards: Next Thursday?
“I was happy they gave me a new date,” Rachel said. “But I’d just put on my best matching set for nothing.”

‘Oh my God, we’re doing admin‘
“Thursday arrived after what felt like a year,” she said. “And the worst part? Pornhub was down. I couldn’t even do my research.”
I dropped my biscuit in my tea. She really is an icon.
They met for drinks nearby, the couple paying while Rachel was in the bathroom (classy). When she sat back down, Luke asked: “Are you still up for coming home with us?”
She said yes. Embarrassingly quickly.
What she didn’t expect was the Uber. Squashed between them in a decade-old Toyota Corolla, making small talk about nothing. “No one tells you about the logistics,” she laughed. “You’re not glamorous celebrities in the back of a Hummer. You’re just sitting in traffic, pretending to be normal.”
At the apartment, the anticipation peaked — then stalled. Drink offered, couch perched upon, posture uncomfortably straight. Luke eventually broke the tension: “We should probably talk about boundaries and what you’re comfortable with.”
“And I just thought: ‘Oh my God, we’re doing admin,'” she said. “Like sexual HR.”
Slightly overwhelmed by the specifics, she gave the only honest answer she had: “I don’t know, I’ve never done this before, but I’m open to everything.”
“That was honestly the hardest part. Sitting there, fully clothed, doing sex admin.”

First rule of threesomes: Newbies go first
Then Luke kissed Maria.
“It was like someone hit a switch,” Rachel said. “All the awkwardness just disappeared.”
What followed, she described less like a sequence of acts and more like a gradual collapse into something instinctive.
Kissing first, then both women taking turns to perform oral sex on Luke (much to his delight, naturally!), then more kissing, partners rotating, the whole thing building into something hotter than she’d anticipated.
“I have never felt so sexy in my life,” she confessed.
The dynamic of joining an established couple worked in her favour when, as the newbie, she got to enjoy Luke first. She doesn’t usually orgasm from penetrative sex, so the near-instant result was a very pleasant surprise.
No man or woman left behind
And although it was her first time with a woman, it felt completely natural when Maria went down on her. “She knew exactly what she was doing. And no one was ever left out — not for a second,” Rachel said.
That really would be the nightmare, wouldn’t it?
“I just did what I like having done to me,” she said of her turn with Maria, “and she seemed to really enjoy it.”
Watching this couple in full flight, Rachel found herself unexpectedly moved. “I couldn’t help but admire them. They’re living completely outside societal norms. It’s ridiculous that any of this is still considered taboo.”
They migrated to the bedroom. In Rachel’s words: “Think of every position three people could do and I’d bet we did it.”
And then it was over.

‘A sexy little party bag’
When it ended, nobody rushed to move. They lay there, all three, in quiet disbelief at how good it had been. “I remember thinking: I cannot believe this is my actual life right now,” Rachel told me.
Eventually, they drifted back to the living room; no urgency, no awkwardness. Maria kissed her goodbye at the door, passionately. “It wasn’t weird,” Rachel said. “It was like a sexy little party bag. Like when someone sends you home with a slice of cake.”
Luke walked her downstairs and waited for her Uber. They kissed again outside. There were laughs. A few glances back.
They’re still in touch via a group chat called something like “wine club.” A solid decoy. She’s seeing them again next Thursday.
“It’s not like it was a one-time experiment,” she said. “It feels like it might become a part of my life.”
