Whether it’s an international or local fashion week, it’s a time for new outfit ideas, style inspiration and shopping cart updates.
It can be an overwhelming feast for fashionable eyes and is often unattainable with collections not launching for months or perhaps out of our price range. But not this year in our opinion.
The 2024 Australian Fashion Week has never been more relevant, with accessible designers and shoppable, ready-to-wear pieces you can fit into your wardrobes right away or inspire you to try a new trend in the meantime.
Although designers are showing their Resort 25’ collections, this year’s looks appealed to all seasons, shapes and styles with the influx of denim, tailoring, hosiery, and boots mixed into a very resort-style capsule of slinky dresses, tops and swimwear. Here are 3 trends dominating the runway that you can try now.
Legwear
Whether it’s hosiery or leather socks, dressing up your legs and toes was a trend on repeat for multiple designers exhibiting their collections this year. Sheer tights were worn under skirts with the waistband on show at Anna Quan. Leather socks were tightly tucked into open-toe sandals while pops of red socks and suede legwarmers have never been cooler.

Sheer Skirts
Not just for evening wear, a sheer skirt should be your next wish list item. Almost every designer this year sent their models down the runway in at least one look with a sheer skirt. Worn over hosiery at Carla Zampatti, bodysuits at Karla Spetic, with oversized shirts or even layered under a high split dress at Third Form, it was a much-needed injection of femininity amid the quiet luxury era. Wear it with an oversized, long shirt and pumps for a new after-dark look.

Handheld Bags
Leather clutches and oversized bags were securely tucked up under model’s arms this year giving a luxe, polished look. Whether it was a tote rolled up at Viktoria & Woods or an oversized leather pouch at Third Form, no handles were in sight. Although this won’t be your new commuter bag, it can be your go-to for any event from a wedding to a long lunch or date night.
