Roxy Jacenko: Why I'm not celebrating Christmas this year
Christmas is going to look a lot different for public relations mogul Roxy Jacenko and her children, Pixie, 5, and Hunter, 2, this year. Despite having a “tumultuous”, the 36-year-old CEO told WHO she won’t be celebrating the holiday this year, because her husband Oliver Curtis will still be serving his prison sentence.
“I told Pixie and Hunter their father would be home for Christmas, ” says Jacenko, explaining their father’s absence was he was sentenced to two years jail for conspiracy to commit insider trading in June. “It was so far away then… now, here we are.”
Instead of having a big Christmas, complete with Christmas tree, Jacenko, who features in WHO’S Most Intruging People Issue, will have a “nice” lunch at a friends place and then head to Hawaii the next day. “It will be nice to have a break,” says Jacenko, who was diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks after her husbands sentencing. “I can actually take a moment to not look at my emails every three seconds. I might look at them every 30 seconds.”
Jacenko says that 2016 has shown her “that you can conquer anything” and despite her struggles, “they are very small in comparison to others. I’m lucky. I have an amazing support network, my mum is brilliant, my children are a joy to be around and my business is thriving. So I got cancer, and so my husband went to jail, but that’s life.”
