She has played her share of sassy characters and on the ABC series Newton’s Law, Miranda Tapsell admits she gets a bit bookish as insurance investigator Skye Stewart, But if you want to see the actress go maximum geek, get her a meeting with actor and singer Donald Glover.
“I just have to listen to Childish Gambino,” Tapsell tells WHO of Glover’s stage persona, admitting she would turn into Bridget Jones if she were to see him in person. “When he covered Tamia’s “So Into You” on Triple J’s “Like A Version,” she adds, “It made me fall in love with him even more. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, I love you!'”
And revealing another obsession, Tapsell addresses Glover by saying, “Lando Calrissian is singing my song. Not only are you cast in one of my favourite films, you are singing one of my favourite songs!”
Tapsell revels in her pop culture passions. “I binge a lot,” she says of her TV habits. “The last show I binged on was Orange Is the New Black. I also got through all of Stranger Things even though I’m a scaredy cat. I’m just not good at scary movies — I was never into It. And because it played up on all of that, I was like, ‘Aigh!’ but I got through all of that and I was proud of myself.”
The Sapphires star is also looking forward to getting her groove on at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. “I went to Drag Bingo recently to raise money for the trans community on the Tiwi Islands,” Tapsell says. “It’s for the Darwin float, and I’m going to join the float because I want to support my LGBTQI family and friends.”
