Following the controversial Oscar nominations, the 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) have announced their 2026 line-up of film award nominees.
The nominations were revealed by actors David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood, with Hamnet and Marty Supreme earning 11 each.
Meanwhile, One Battle After Another racked up 14 nominations (including a leading actor nod for Leonardo DiCaprio) and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners scored 13.
However, others were not as fortunate, like Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who went unrecognised for their acting talents in Wicked: For Good.
From directors to actors, and everything in between – here are the most shocking snubs of the 2026 BAFTA nominations.
Wicked: For Good
Following their bad luck with Oscar nominations last week, Wicked: For Good didn’t get much luckier with the BAFTAs.

Despite the costume and make-up department’s nomination, the sequel missed out in major categories like Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
Lead stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo also got overlooked in the Best Actress and Best Support Actress categories.
Guillermo del Toro
Despite the overall success of Frankenstein in the majority of the BAFTA categories, the film’s director, Guillermo del Toro, was skipped for the Best Director nod.

However, the film did receive plenty of BAFTA nominations in the craft categories, and the huge honour of Best Actor nominee for Aussie star Jacob Elordi.
Although the Oscars chose to snub del Toro too, we can’t help but wonder why.
How is it possible that the person who created such a highly-nominated film isn’t also getting recognition?
Nuremberg
Nuremberg received five BAFTA long-list mentions, however, when push came to shove the historical drama didn’t make the cut.

When are the BAFTA Awards 2026?
The 79th BAFTAs will be held on 22 February 2026.
