A new Big Bang Theory spin-off has officially been given the green light and is ready to welcome a new generation of fans to the franchise.
The new series is called Stuart Fails To Save The Universe, and follows the comedic inter-dimensional quests of comic book store owner, Stuart Bloom.
While Stuart was not one of the central gang in the original Big Bang Theory, fans will certainly recognise him as a recurring character on the show, played by actor Kevin Sussman.
Following the success of The Big Bang Theory and its first spin off, Young Sheldon, show creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady decided to extend its life with the new Stuart spin-off. If you’re wondering what it’s about and who will make an appearance in the show, scroll on.
Is there a Big Bang Theory spinoff coming?
Oh, yes there is! A Big Bang Theory spin-off is in the works, with show creator Chuck Lorre first announcing development of the series in April 2023. Stuart Bloom is officially getting the spin-off treatment as the central character of a new addition to The Big Bang Theory franchise, Stuart Fails To Save The Universe.
Who is Stuart in the Big Bang Theory?
If you can’t remember exactly who Stuart was, it will only take you a second to recognise this familiar face from the original series.

Remember him?
Stuart Bloom owns the comic book store in The Big Bang Theory universe. His character wasn’t part of the central friend group, but frequently tried to work his way in to their fun. He eventually moved in to Wolowitz House with Howard and Bernadette in season 9.

What is the Big Bang Theory spinoff about? All the plot details:
The series will focus on comic book store owner Stuart Bloom. Per the official plot summary from HBO Max, Stuart is “tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon.”
The series will send Stuart on a series of quests with a number of side-kicks, including his girlfriend Denise, friend Bert and Barry — all of whom appeared in the original Big Bang Theory series.
“Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory,” the summary continues, suggesting we’ll be seeing more of the original Big Bang Theory cast throughout the spin-off.
The ambitious series moves more into the fantastic than the traditional sit-com formats of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Creator Chuck Lorre has said of the Stuart spin-off: “I wanted to do something radical that would take me out of my comfort zone. Something the characters on The Big Bang Theory, would have loved, hated, and argued about.”
Which original cast members are in the Big Bang Theory spin-off?
The cast of Stuart Fails To Save The Universe will feature several characters from the original Big Bang Theory. As mentioned, Kevin Sussman will lead the lineup as Stuart, joined by his girlfriend from The Big Bang Theory, Denise (Lauren Lapkus).

Fans will also recognise the other central cast members, geologist Bert (Brian Posehn) and irksome Barry (John Ross Bowie), from The Big Bang Theory.
But will they be joined by the main characters from The Big Bang Theory? While no formal announcements have been made yet, the official plot summary claims Stuart will meet “alternate-universe versions” of Big Bang Theory characters. This suggests we can indeed expect appearances from Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Raj (Kunal Nayyar), Howard (Simon Helberg), Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch).
