In case Ali Oetjen didn’t already hold the title of the fittest contestant to ever walk The Bachelor (and Bachelorette) red carpet, she’s certainly earned it after these efforts.
The 34-year-old, who, btw, is about to appear in the first season of SAS Australia, dished up all about her eating and exercise habits in a recent interview. And, as you’d probably expect given her cheese grater abs and penchant for wellness, they’re pretty darn intense.
“I was very focused on only eating healthy food that would nourish and benefit my body while I put it through long days and nights [filming],” the 34-year-old told Women’s Health.
“I also needed all the fuel from good food to produce maximum amounts of focused energy. I stuck to it every single day and didn’t waiver. I always think ‘How am I going to feel after I’ve consumed this?’. I had an esky with all my healthy snacks in it!”
When not in front of the camera, Ali’s day on a plate is just as clean. Her go-to brekkie includes a green smoothie (think spinach, frozen berries, banana and a combo of different greens powders.) Or, when the weather permits, she whips up porridge made with rolled oats, banana, blueberries, mixed nuts and seeds.
“Lunch is protein and vegetables (normally leftovers from the night before,)” she said. “My favourite easy dinner is a stir-fry, using turkey, chicken or kangaroo, veggies I have in the fridge plus frozen veggies.” Her number one tip to squeeze in added nutrients? “Extra veg normally allows for extra leftovers!”
Ali’s approach to fitness is equally impressive. Via Instagram, she previously shared one of her cardio workouts with fans. It included a 5-minute treadmill warm-up, followed by sprinting, skipping, jump squats and ergo rows.
‘I’m so sweaty and that was such a good workout… look how shiny and sweaty I am! Secret to the glow, that sweat!’ she said in the clip.
Ali is also a trained yogi (you can check out some of her favourite flows on YouTube) and a regular in the boxing ring. She even dabbles in martial arts and rollerblading on occasion.
