Ahhh, ‘Aquaman.’ Two hours of action-packed underwater bliss.
It’s no secret the film starring Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard has stormed the box office for weeks, receiving rave reviews from some of the harshest critics. Now, the latest instalment in the DC Extended Universe has officially grossed $1 billion worldwide.
“We’re thrilled audiences around the world have embraced ‘Aquaman’ in such a big, big way,” Ron Sanders, Warner Bros. president of Worldwide Distribution said. “Jason, the filmmakers and the team at DC have delivered a film that people love, and we are so appreciative of their support.”
Director of the DC Super Hero adventure film James Wan also thanked the star of the film Jason Momoa for all his hard work.
“Humbled by the way you’ve embraced ‘Aquaman’ and how it has resonated on a global scale,” Wan said. “I’ll forever be indebted to Jason for turning Aquaman into one of the coolest, cinematic Super Heroes ever and becoming the gold standard for this character for generations to come.
In addition to crossing the billion-dollar mark, ‘Aquaman’ is now the second highest grossing DC film in history behind ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ which took in $1.08 billion in its run.
