Rose Byrne and Jacob Elordi are officially Oscar-nominated actors, with the Australians getting a nod from the Academy Awards and claiming a spot in one of Hollywood’s most exclusive clubs.

The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday in Los Angeles and the list left some films breaking records and others completely snubbed.

Thankfully, two of Australia’s most beloved actors were flying the flag amid all the chaos.

Rose Byrne’s Oscar 2026 nomination

Rose Byrne’s Best Actress nominee follows her Golden Globes win for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Bryne plays an unravelling therapist and mother struggling with her child’s mental illness, and has received critical praise for her portrayal of complex female rage and regret.

Rose Byrne will hope to repeat her Golden Globes success at the Oscars.

Speaking about the film, she admitted the role left her feeling “disorientated” at times. We get it, girl.

“It was daunting, it was thrilling, it was radical, and I couldn’t even begin to think where to start with Linda, my character,” she told W Magazine. “I was scared to watch the finished film. I kept avoiding it.

“When I finally saw it, I was speechless.”

Clearly, so were many others.

This is Byrne’s first Oscar nomination.

Jacob Elordi’s Oscar 2026 nomination

Jacob Elordi has been nominated for best supporting actor for his performance in Frankenstein.

The Netflix release was a stylised adaptation of Mary Shelley’s famous novel and Elordi’s portrayal of the Creature evolved from a childlike figure to a tragic one.

Elordi told W magazine that the role was so demanding, he struggling to shake off the character after filming.

“The body design and the feeling that I had was so specific for about six months. Getting back into the world is always a task when you’ve been living in a circus state for so long… It did take me a while to realize that I shouldn’t just gesture at things and grunt.”
