Oscars 2026: How and when to watch in Australia

Arguably one of the biggest awards nights in the world, the Oscars (or more officially the Academy Awards) celebrate the crème de la crème of filmmaking. And, there’s even some Aussies in the mix.

If you’re in Australia and wondering where to watch the glitzy event, have no fear. Here’s everything you need to know

When are the 2026 Oscars? 

The 98th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15 2026.  

But before you jump to cancel plans on your Sunday night, to watch in Australia you’ll need to tune in on Monday, March 16, and is expected to start at around 11am AEDT.

Where can I watch the 2026 Oscars? 

The Oscars will be streamed around the world, but if you want to watch from Australia, the ceremony is available to watch on the Seven Network and 7 Plus. 

Who is nominated at the 2026 Oscars? 

On January 22, the Oscar nominations were announced and we have two Aussies up for big awards

Rose Byrne received a nomination for Best Actress in A Leading Role for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, while Jacob Elordi also got a nod for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for Frankenstein. 

Topping the awards though was gothic vampire film Sinners with a whopping 16 nominations including Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Actor in A Leading Role for Michael B. Jordan. Sinners becomes the first film in history to earn 16 Oscar nominations.

Who was snubbed this year?

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who were nominated last year for Wicked, received no nominations this time around. In fact, the sequel Wicked: For Good received no nominations at all.

Furthermore Paul Mescal, who plays William Shakespeare in Hamnet, was snubbed. The film was nominated for plenty though, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Casting. His co-star Jessie Buckley is one of the favourite to win Best Actress in a Leading Role.
