THE HANDMAID’S TALE

Any fears the dystopian drama would lose its way going off book from Margaret Atwood’s novel proved unfounded as THT continued to astonish
in its second season.

KILLING EVE

One of the most original new series in years, this eight-parter charted the obsession that evolved between an assassin and the MI5 employee on her trail.

WENTWORTH

Even with some of its biggest characters gone in Season 6, an influx of new blood kept the prison drama pulsing – something it will continue to do for at least two more seasons, thanks to its recent renewal.

SHARP OBJECTS

This adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel perfectly evoked steamy small-town America, while Amy Adams impressed as complicated reporter Camille.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

Season 6 saw many (but not all) of the Litchfield gang in a new prison that had very different rules – with the audience kept on their toes as much as the inmates.

PLAYING FOR KEEPS

Watched weekly, it took its time to warm up, but this local drama about the WAGs of a team of AFL players is perfect for back-to-back consumption.

BODYGUARD

Critics are divided about whether it ended as strongly as it started, but this British series about a man appointed to protect a controversial political figure is must-see TV.

EVIL GENIUS

There seemed to be an insatiable appetite for true crime in 2018, and this series, subtitled The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist, made for tasty viewing.

13 REASONS WHY

Earning as much controversy in its second season as in its first, the Netflix drama tackled the revelations contained in Hannah’s (Katherine Langford) tapes head-on.

A PLACE TO CALL HOME

The local period drama kept the soapy twists and turns coming until the very end of Season 6, as the Bligh family prepared themselves for life in the 1960s.

Carson who? The second generation Fab Five became even more settled in their roles as arbiters of taste and style, and scored big points locally thanks to their visit to Yass, NSW.

LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

Not only did this local version of the hit British ‘dating’ series succeed in a crowded market, it did so thanks to views on 9GO and 9Now. In 2019, the Spanish villa couple-swapping show graduates to the main channel.

MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT

In its fifth year, the instant commitment series became the most watched – and discussed – season yet, thanks in no small part to Tracey Jewel and Dean Wells.

THE BACHELOR

Both the choice of suitor – Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins – and the unconventional conclusion made 2018’s season like no other. Scott Tweedie, if he is indeed 2019’s Bachelor, has a lot to live up to.

Where do they find these people? In its second season, B&P unearthed more shockingly unsupportive parents.
