Cate, 51, and Nicole, 53, are both nominated for best actress in a limited series; Cate for her role as a conservative activist called Phyllis Schlafly in Mrs America, and Nicole for her performance in the six-episode psychological thriller The Undoing, alongside Hugh Grant.

While the two both have a good case going for them – and while it looks like Aussies could win big with honorary Australian and Isla Fischer’s husband Sacha Baron Cohen also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Netflix’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 – it seems like they’ll all have some healthy competition.

Cate and Nicole  are up against Anya Taylor-Joy’s audience-beloved performance in The Queen’s Gambit, and British actress-comedian Michaela Coel in her emotionally-shattering and real display of a woman who’s experienced sexual abuse and the trauma that comes from it in I May Destroy You.

Another noticeable nomination includes a variety of noms for A24’s Minari, a beautifully grounded, heartfelt and heartbreaking drama about a Korean immigrant family trying to make ends meet in America. The film is nominated for best ensemble, best actor (Steven Yuen), and best supporting actress (Youn Yuh-Jung).

The beloved cast of Canadian riches-to-rags comedy Schitt’s Creek has been awarded a tonne of nominations, too, following the final season of the hit series. Additionally, the late actor Chadwick Boseman has been nominated for his last two acting roles in Netflix’s Da 5 Bloods and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, respectively.
