After nearly two years away from the stage, Celine Dion is rumoured to be performing for the first time since her diagnosis with Stiff Persons Syndrome at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony.
While there has not yet been any official confirmation on her performance, speculation heightened after the 56-year-old songstress was spotted in Paris at the Royal Monceau Hotel, leading many fans to believe that Dion could soon be making her long-awaited comeback to the world of live performance.
Responding to the recent rumours, French President Emmanuel Macron told France 2 that he was aware Dion had arrived in Paris, stating “it would be fantastic news” if she made her live comeback as part of the Olympics.
“I would be immensely happy if she could be at this Opening Ceremony, like all our compatriots,” President Macron shared, adding, “I will not reveal anything, what [Opening Ceremony director] Thomas Jolly and all his teams have prepared. There is also a surprise.”

As fans eagerly await the news of the surprise teased by the French President, Dion has not been the only North American singer rumoured to be taking to the stage, with Lady Gaga also being spotted at the Royal Monceau Hotel ahead of the Olympics.
While the My Heart Will Go On singer’s rumoured participation in the ceremony would mark her first live performance since the cancellation of her Courage World Tour, it would not be the first time she has taken to the Olympic stage, with Dion previously performing at the Opening Ceremony of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

The location of Dion’s potential comeback has also led fans to believe that her Olympic Games performance is likely to happen, with the singer previously stating that she had a goal to return to the French capital amidst her ongoing physiotherapy.
“I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again,” Dion told Vogue France in April 2023.
