Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik first confirmed they were expecting in April 2020 on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon after rumours had been circling earlier in the month.
For the most part, she had a very private pregnancy but it didn’t stop her from showing off her bump in later photos.
September 2020: Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik welcome their daughter Khai
On September 23, 2020, Gigi announced the birth of her daughter on Instagram, writing “Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world. So in love🥺💕”
Zayn also shared the exciting news, posting “Our baby girl is here, healthy and beautiful🙏🏽❤️ to try put into words how I am feeling right now would be an impossible task. The love I feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, and thankful for the life we will have together x.”
October 2021: Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik split
Gigi and Zayn had been on and off throughout the years but eventually split in October 2021 after a family incident.
Gigi has spoken only positively about him since the split including celebrating him on Father’s Day and boasting about how he’s an amazing dad whenever possible.
July 2023: Zayn Malik opens up on co-parenting
In his first interview in over six years, Zayn Malik discussed his co-parenting relationship with Gigi Hadid on a July 2023 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.
“Co-parenting is good. We have a really good relationship for Khai. She’s the main importance. It’s going well… I think,” he joked. “Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her.”
Zayn also touched on the alleged physical altercation with Gigi’s mother Yolanda, with Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper highlighting that Zayn’s 50% custody of Khai would not have been granted had the allegations against him been true.
“I knew what the situation was. I knew what happened and the people involved knew what happened. That’s all I really care about.”
September 2023: Gigi Hadid opens up on co-parenting
In an interview with NET-A-PORTER’s magazine PORTER, Gigi Hadid offered a rare insight into her co-parenting relationship with Zayn Malik.
“I think when you’re a parent. you have to be intentional because now I literally have half the time. I work when my daughter is with her dad and that’s the time I have. The jobs that I choose to fill that time with have to be fulfilling,” Gigi told the publication.
Gigi also shared a glimpse into her daily life with her daughter Khai, sharing that her new hobby of crochet has been responsible for some of Khai’s favourite toys.
“It’s just a blob with a horn and eyes. It’s hilarious,” said Gigi, with the model creating a one-of-a-kind unicorn toy for her daughter.
The 30-year-old also shared that Khai has played an instrumental part in the upcoming kids’ collection for her clothing brand Guest in Residence.
“Khai and her best friend are our fit models. They come into the office, Khai tries on one dress and then she’s like, ‘Do you want to go to the donut store?'”
March 2024: Zayn Malik reflects on his relationship with daughter Khai
Speaking with L’Officiel, Zayn opened up on his relationship with his daughter Khai and his decision to relocate to his ranch in Pennsylvania.
“When I found out that my partner at the time was pregnant, I pretty quickly made up my mind that this would be a great place to raise a child because there’s so much for her to do here, so we do spend a lot of time outside.”
Escaping the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, Zayn revealed that his father-daughter time with three-year-old Khai is primarily spent in nature.
“She likes to camp with me. We cook outside. We fish a little bit. And she’s really into it, too, so it makes it fun. Hopefully, we can create some amazing memories here.”
Zayn also shared a brief insight into Khai’s personality, revealing that she is already following in his musical footsteps!
“Khai has a lot of natural ability herself already. I know it sounds ridiculous because she’s three, but her retention for language, especially when it’s formatted in a musical sense to her, has been amazing.”
March 2025: Gigi gets candid about her relationship with Zayn
In an interview with Vogue, Gigi made some rare comments on her co-parenting relationship with Zayn, telling the publication that they had mutual respect for each other.
“Zayn and I do our custody schedules months in advance,” she told the publication. “That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other’s backs.”
Explaining that she and Zayn had entered co-parenting with “love, and a feeling of camaraderie.” “There is the hard part of the world knowing this much, and thinking they know everything,” she explained. “And at the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together, with so much respect for each other, and not just as co-parents, but what we’ve been through together.”
