Collecting his first award of the evening, Emdur seemed genuinely thrilled.

”Oh, wow! Thank you. Thank you,” he exclaimed, before diving into an acceptance speech that had the audience in stitches.

”This is lovely recognition, recognition for me is usually someone yelling out on the street, ‘Come on down, you w***er!”’

”Come on down,” of course, is the famous catchphrase from the popular game show The Price Is Right, which Emdur hosted on the Nine Network from 1993 to 1998.

”This is really lovely. It’s also a horrible, horrible night, because I had a thousand bucks on Robert,” he joked, referring to Robert Irwin, who was up for the same award.

”Everyone knows that the Presenter Award is, you know, the person who stands up the front with the huge machines behind them.

”So I have to thank my TV families from The Chase Australia … And, of course, The Morning Show. 17 years at number one, that’s really, really special.

”My TV wife Kylie Gillies is here … This is for all the presenters in the room and, of course, my ever-supportive real wife, Sylvie, who said if I do win anything tonight, she’s going to melt it down and make jewellery.”

Emdur was clearly emotional as he took home the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality later in the evening.

“I know it’s late, I’m sorry, I’ve just got a couple of people…yeah, wow,” Larry began as he took to the stage as the time neared midnight, before quipping, “Nat Barr is looking at me like, ‘Baby, I’ve got to get up in 25 minutes’.

“I love this business so much. I love being in TV, I love being on TV and I’ve never done anything else and I’ve never wanted to do anything else,” he went on.

The star also paid tribute to his The Morning Show co-host during his speech.

“Kylie Gillies, my TV wife, thank you, we campaigned hard. I wrote in my book – which is now available in all good clearance bins – that Kylie and I sat on the The Morning Show teach 17 years ago and we clicked and we’ve never unclicked.”

Emdur also paid tribute to his wife in his Gold Logie speech.

“Sylvie, thank you for everything you’ve done. After Price is Right I took a couple of steps down and got axed and axed and axed and Sylvie and I said that’s it, ‘no more crappy shows’. And then Channel Ten called

me about doing a show called ‘Celebrity Dog School’ and I said ‘we agreed not to do any more crappy shows’ and she said ‘I need a new kitchen, you are doing it’.

Earlier, Emdur took to the red carpet with his glamorous wife, where he dished on his preparations for the big night.

He credited Sylvie as his in-house stylist who had helped him make some important fashion decisions for the night.

“I just said, ‘go for black’,” Sylvie said – so Emdur did.

And he was pleased to see that when he stepped on to the red carpet, he was up with the current fashion.

“I’ve turned up tonight and Robert Irwin’s wearing exactly the same, so I’m a 60-year-old man rocking it with a 20-year-old,” he said.
