Australian model Lucy Markovic has tragically passed away, aged 27.
Announcing the news to her social media, Lucy’s partner wrote, “Dear friends and family, I regret to inform you that Lucy has passed. She was at peace.”
“Me, her mother, and my mother were present with her. We ask you to please give us space in these hard times. May Lucy rest in peace.”

Lucy’s agency, Elite Model Management, released a statement shortly after the announcement, describing the former Australia’s Next Top Model star as a “bright shining light.”
“We are heartbroken to share that Lucy Markovic has passed away after a brave battle with brain AVM [arteriovenous malformation]. Lucy was bright shining light, and had an incredible dry sense of humour. Her smile and laughter could light up a room, and draw you closer to her.”
“Modelling was one of Lucy’s dreams, and we are deeply honoured to have been part of that journey with her. She brought elegance, strength, and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself – her warmth, her laughter, her light,” the statement continued.

One month prior to her tragic passing, the 27-year-old spoke candidly about her diagnosis with AVM, a condition that causes abnormal connections between the arteries and veins, on her social media.
“Lucky + unlucky – Radiation, seizures, heavy medication and 4 years later. I will be undergoing brain surgery on the 26th of this month for the AVM in the back of my brain that is the size of a golf ball (Now has changed to 2nd of April. Excited, thankful, scared, supported, hopeful,” she wrote.

Lucy first rose to fame as a contestant on Season 9 of Australia’s Next Top Model, where she was crowned runner-up.
Over the next decade, she went on to build a successful international modelling career, working with top brands such as Versace and Givenchy and appearing in both campaigns and major runway shows across the globe.
