Married At First Sight’s Sebastian Guilhaus has had a terrifying near-death experience while driving along the freeway.
WATCH: MAFS’ Seb’s car is wrecked after shocking accident
Late last night, Seb took to Instagram to share his extremely harrowing ordeal with his followers.
“So I had a fairly traumatic experience,” the 31-year-old wrote.
“I was driving 95 km/hr and suddenly spouts of smoke entered the cabin just behind my drivers seat… I quickly pulled over and jumped out… 2 seconds later the inside of the car began to set alight… I had just filled the car with fuel and had watched too many movies, So assumed I was about to be blown to pieces.”
The post was accompanied by a series of photos and a video of the wrecked car, of which showed the severity of the damage inflicted upon the Ford Falcon.
Seb went on to explain that a lot of his valuables were in the vehicle, including expensive tech and training equipment.
“After about a minute and in a panic I realised that some precious things were in the car… I sprinted, assuming the car was about to blow, grabbed my camera, my phone and bag with I.D. and odd bits and bobs, leaving the rest.”
While Seb quickly salvaged these valuable items, a heroic passer-by rushed to the scene to assist the personal trainer.
“A gallant knight driving a huge truck literally jumped out, grabbed a fire extinguisher and tried to stop the ravenous flames from eating the car” Seb explained in the post.
But despite their joined efforts, Seb lamented “it was too late” and as his pride and joy was engulfed in flames, so too was all of his training equipment.
“I LOST THE CAR,” the 31-year-old emphatically wrote, “AND NOTHING TO BE DONE ABOUT EVERYTHING I NEEDED TO RUN SG WELLNESS. 10K OF ASSETS EATEN BUT THANK GOD I WAS UNHARMED.”
While Seb did not specify where the accident occurred, it is common knowledge that the personal trainer recently moved to Sydney to be with his fellow MAFS contestant and girlfriend, Elizabeth Sobinoff.
After leaving the seventh season of Married At First Sight as the only remaining couple, Seb and Lizzie are still as strong as ever.
At the beginning of 2020, the lovers struggled through long-distance with Seb in Adelaide and Lizzie in Sydney – the distance made only harder by COVID-19.
But it didn’t take long for the couple to announce that Seb was leaving Adelaide behind and uprooting to Sydney to be with his love.
Since living together, the pair have been practically glued to the hip. Just recently, Seb shared a sweet Boxing Day snap of him and Lizzie, writing “It’s nice to have a chance to really connect again”.
While the former MAFS star was understandably devastated by the significant emotional and financial losses sustained in the car accident, a silver lining did eventually appear.
Towards the end of his post, Seb revealed that the equipment he lost in the fire had been replaced by some extremely good Samaritans.
“This morning, a week or so later, I caught up with some of my original warrior clients and Sophie said they had banded together and bought me a present,” Seb wrote.
“All the Wellness Warriors had gone behind my back to pool $2000 together to make up for some of what was lost!!!!!!
“I JUST WANT TO SAY TO ALL MY WARRIORS, I LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH AND I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH, WE ARE FAMILY.”
Among the many fans to comment their well wishes to the reality TV star was a familiar face.
Drew Brauer from Seb’s season of MAFS voiced his support, writing “That’s amazing brother. Look what you have created! So glad to hear you’re ok man. Things are just things”.
Despite the suffering that the near-death experience has put the former MAFS star through, it’s comforting to know that the 31-year-old is still able to joke through the trauma, ending his post by writing, “if anyone wants to buy a Falcon, it’s on sale now… ‘super hot ride’, ‘really burns down the freeway’”.
