As the now-infamous saying goes, “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.” So were the palace staff who first said it onto something? Or was Meghan Markle right to be suspicious of her husband Prince Harry’s family?

In the two years since they married, the American actress and her British prince renovated and moved into their plush Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage, escaped to Vancouver, Canada, and then relocated to a $27 million mega mansion in Los Angeles.
But, according to royal insiders, continuing Harry’s philanthropy crusade and dividing their time between Africa and the UK, as they had agreed, was never in Meghan’s long-term plans.
“I think she felt like an outsider from the start. This wasn’t the life she was used to and she wanted out,” a friend of Meghan’s told The Times. What’s more, she believed The Firm was out to get her.
“She was convinced there was a conspiracy against her and so she basically put herself in isolation when they moved to Frogmore.”
Despite travelling the world with Harry, 35, to spruik royal charities, bring attention to philanthropic causes and meet their people, the insider added that Meghan, 38, felt “unfulfilled” and by the time she’d given birth to their son, Archie Harrison, in May 2019, she was burnt out.
When Queen Elizabeth vetoed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s suggestion that they work as part-time royals, the insider said Meghan put her “big plan” into action.
“The big plan, for Meghan, at least, was always LA,” they explained, but the move to Hollywood has left Harry “lonely and directionless”, another insider told The Times.
“I think Harry is missing having a structure to his life right now,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “He doesn’t have friends in LA like Meghan and he doesn’t have a job.”
Despite now rubbing shoulders with Hollywood’s elite, including Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Adele, and George and Amal Clooney, Harry also misses his brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, with whom he all but severed ties after his move.
And it seems they feel the same way – though there is no love lost for Meghan.
“I think Kate and William miss Harry and Meghan to a degree, but certainly they miss Harry [being] around and part of their lives,” Nicholl continued.
In a rare move, Kensington Palace has responded to a Tatler magazine article which laid out claims that Kate “is furious about the larger workload” she’s had to carry following Megxit and that she has been left feeling “exhausted and trapped”.
The same article contends that the source of Kate’s feud with her sister-in-law stems from an argument – which Meghan won – over whether Meghan’s bridesmaids should wear stockings.
“This story contains a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations which were not put to Kensington Palace prior to publication,” a palace spokesperson said.
In their own statement, Tatler responded that the editor “stands behind the reporting” and contends “Kensington Palace knew we were running the ‘Catherine the Great’ cover months ago and we asked them to work together on it. The fact they are denying they ever knew is categorically false.”
Meanwhile in LA, Meghan isn’t letting her short-lived time in the royal family distract her from her dreams of becoming an esteemed actress and a civil rights activist.
“They are getting counsel from some of the most incredible people around the world,” a friend told Oprah magazine. “There are a lot of people out there who genuinely want them to succeed and want to help them. At the moment, they’re getting a lot of great support from friends they’ve made over the years.”
Included in that elite circle of friends is Grammy Award-winner David Foster, whose wife Katharine McPhee claims has become a father figure for the wayward prince.
“My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry, the actress told Access Hollywood. “They’re like … they’re so cute. They’re like father and son.”
Those words will no doubt cut deep for Harry’s father, Prince Charles, who is reportedly paying more than $4,000,000 a year for the Sussexes’ security detail so they can afford to repay the millions they spent on Frogmore Cottage. And royal expert Brittani Barger confirms the Prince of Wales is “hurt”.
“Charles loves his son very much,” she told Daily Star Online. “I think it would sting a little for any parent to hear someone say that their child has a parent/child relationship with someone other than their parents.”
