December 25, 2016 the world was shocked as news broke that George Michael had been found dead at just 53.
Although the star was said to have died of “natural causes” there are many discrepancies around his death. Was it really suicide or was it something else?
On Thursday night’s episode of Autopsy USA renowned forensic pathologist Dr Michael Hunter is using biographical accounts and first hand testimonies to piece together what was going on in the body of this much-loved star when he died.

“Natural causes is a very general term… at 53 years old George Michael was a relatively young man. Too young to die unless there were serious underlying issues,” says the doctor.
So what was going on in his body when the star died?
“Dilated cardio myopathy – muscle walls of the heart become stretched and thin. He also had fatty liver disease – they are deemed natural causes but are lifestyle affected,” the doctor continues.
Throughout this life it was revealed George was using GHB – a depressant of the central nervous system with dangerous side effects.
George’s hedonistic lifestyle was beginning to take a toll. Five years before his death he was rushed to hospital with pneumonia and put into an induced coma with a life-saving tracheotomy and some say his voice never recovered.
The singer’s troubled life had resulted in behaviours that over many years that caused physical damage to his body and were likely contributing factors to his death.
But in the documentary, the doctor looks into the claims George had really committed suicide.
From the police report ‘unexplained but not suspicions’ the doctor concluded there was no apparent sign of a drug overdose or damage to his body in such a way to cause death.
