With The Devil Wears Prada 2 mere weeks away from cinemas, Meryl Streep, who reprises her role as the formidable Miranda Priestly in the film, has revealed one of the big differences between the new movie and the OG.

The Oscar-winning actress also confessed that the big change was thanks to some “non-negotiables” her co-star Anne Hathaway laid down.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Meryl shared that she and Hathaway, who’s back as Andy Sachs, were filming a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show during Milan Fashion week, and the women were “struck by how not only beautiful and young … but alarmingly thin the models were”.

“I thought that all had been addressed years ago,” she said. “Annie clocked it too, and she made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal!”

This, of course, will be in contrast to the franchise’s first outing, in which all of the models shown were rail-thin, and Andy was constantly mocked for being “a size 6”, which was considered “fat” in the world of the fictional Runway magazine.

“She’s a stand-up girl,” Streep added of Hathaway.

Meryl Streep ‘shocked’ by filming The Devil Wears Prada 2

Streep also touched on the huge spectacle that occurred during the filming of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

She shared that she was “aware of the impact of the first film”, but didn’t realise the actual filming of the sequel would be such a big deal to fans.

“I think none of us were prepared for the ambush of both goodwill and avid attention that engulfed us,” the legendary actress said. “We needed police barriers and crowd control.

“Buses of fans turned up, and paparazzi swarmed and in one case kept jumping in front of the camera and the shot and got in a kerfuffle with crew! Annie kept her cool, but I was unnerved.”

Fans will likely remember the moment during filming where Anne fell down some stairs, which caused a major flurry on social media at the time.

“I was aware that I was falling, I was aware that I was being photographed, and I was also aware that so many people on the crew, their hearts had just jumped up into their throat, so I needed to get up quickly to make sure they knew I was OK,” Hathaway said, adding that she later told director David Frankel, “Oh no. I’m news.”

Thank God she wasn’t injured in the fall!
