Unquestionably the loosest awards show of the season, and certainly one with the most legendary red carpet fashion, the Golden Globes 2026 are again in sight with the nominations being revealed.
As we gear up for the most wonderful time of year — Awards Season — the Golden Globe nominations present something of a litmus test.
In many years past, those who are nominated for a Golden Globe usually keep popping up in nominations at the other major awards shows, so it gives us a good idea of the frontrunners and probable winners.

However, in saying that, because of the larger category pool, there are also more people nominated for the Globes than other awards shows, so it’s much more fun. Plus, the celebrities enjoy the ceremony while having their champagne glasses routinely filled meaning they are, quite literally, more loose than usual.
For the Golden Globes 2026 nominations, there’s plenty to talk about.

In a surprise to no one, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another dominated with nine nominations, including Best Picture, Director and Screenplay. The leads Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn all secured acting nominations, too.
Following behind was Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, which nabbed eight nominations, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners came in next with seven, then Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet with six, and Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good both bagged five nominations each.

In the television categories, The White Lotus season 3 led the pack with six nominations, followed closely by Stephen Graham’s limited series Adolescence.
There were plenty of snubs and surprises, though. Here, we’ve got the goss on each of them for you.
Golden Globes nominations 2026 snubs

Wicked: For Good
Despite being a crowd-pleasing sequel with strong box-office performance and acting nominations for both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the film was snubbed for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and director Jon M. Chu was overlooked entirely.
Sydney Sweeney
While Sydney’s biopic, Christy, had all the makings of Oscar bait, it wasn’t enough to secure a nomination this time.

Josh Safdie
While Josh’s Timothée Chalamet-starring film, Marty Supreme, was recognised in other major categories — Best Picture, Screenplay, and Lead Actor — the HFPA didn’t see fit to recognise the director for his work. It was a big snub, and quite a sharp one too when you consider it’s also his first film as a solo director since splitting from his brother, Benny.
Joe Rogan
In a snub we certainly aren’t complaining about, the the Globes’ first-ever Best Podcast category ignored the Joe Rogan Experience. Even though it tops charts globally, it didn’t make the final nominations, along with several other high-profile political podcasts from people like Ben Shapiro.
Golden Globes nominations 2026 surprises

Jacob Elordi
Elordi earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his role as the Monster in Frankenstein, which wasn’t that surprising because it’s been getting recognised since the film’s release as one of the year’s best performances. But more surprising was the fact he also got nominated for his role in the limited series, The Narrow Road to the Deep North. The Australian miniseries didn’t really register across the pond so it’s an unexpected moment in the Golden Globes 2026 nominations.
Eva Victor
In a win for independent cinema, Eva Victor was recognised in the Best Actress Drama category for her film debut, Sorry, Baby. Critically acclaimed, it’s nice to see smaller films and their actors get recognised.

Amanda Seyfried
Amanda secured two acting nominations, one more surprising than the other. While her recognition for The Testament of Ann Lee wasn’t a shock to anyone, it was unexpected to see her get a nod for drama miniseries The Long Bright River.
