We kicked off 2022 watching some of our most beloved celebrities spend four weeks in the so-called Aussie jungle, and finally, we’ve seen a winner crowned.

Coming out on top in a public vote against the other final five celebs, Dylan Lewis looked thrilled, and rather shocked, to be taking out the crown, and winning $100,000 for his charity, Lifeline, in the process.

While it came down to him and Brooke McClymont, Dylan just scraped through and won the jungle-themed crown.

He hugged Brooke first before running over to embrace his family – wife Holly, and kids Rose and Jethro.

Dylan was a fan-favourite from early on, having been a staple in the Australian television and music scene for two decades now.

The money, which 10 will donate to Lifeline, was hard-won, after the celebs weathered another super-tough season of the show.

From day one, we saw them leaping out of planes, and being colour-bombed during quizzes, and the hunger set in very quickly as the cast were made to fight each day for their dinner.

Jumping from crazy heights, competing in tucker trials, and sticking their hands in some pretty scary boxes in guessing games was not enough to deter the final six, though, and along the way, we found a deep love and respect for some of the cast we didn’t know much about before the show.

We learned more about Miss Universe Australia Maria Thattil, and watched David Subritsky convince everyone that he was really, definitely famous.

We said goodbye to fan-favourite Beau Ryan as he became the fourth person in the show’s Australian history to say the infamous words “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here”.

Also, candid chats around the campfire endeared us further to our favourites, as we learned of Emily’s struggle with disordered eating, Dylan’s loss to suicide, and Davina’s struggles with trolling after her time on Married at First Sight.

And just as all the years before, it was the bonds formed that proved to be the lasting legacy of the show, with all the eliminated celebrities thanking their new friends on social media as they left the jungle.

“The camp made me feel so safe and protected,” Emily Seebohm told WHO.

“We have this … like an unspoken bond from being in the jungle, and being together, and sharing this experience with each other. It’s something extremely special to me, and I can’t wait to see it all grow.”
