After Mariah Carey’s uncomfortable performance during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, rumours sparked that the singer was lip-synching and didn’t bother showing up to rehearsal.

Mariah Carey’s manager, Stella Bulochnikov, shut down these rumours and shared what actually happened behind the scenes to Entertainment Weekly.

Bulochnikov revealed that the 46-year-old singer was not lip-synching and was actually singing over a track. She also said that Mariah did go to the rehearsal and the singer even uploaded a picture of this to her Twitter account.

Audio issues began during Mariah’s interview with Ryan Seacrest over an hour before she had to perform. Her manager spoke to producers about the problem, but was told numerous times that there would be working earpieces for the live performance.

However, the technical problem continued and by song number three Carey said, “It just doesn’t get any better,” and ditched the stage.

After the show the mother-of-two Tweeted, “Shit happens 😩 Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017 😂.”

The producers have been accused of deliberately sabotaging her performance but they have denied this. “To suggest that [Dick Clark Productions] … would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd,” according to Billboard.
