In recent years, the Met Gala (possibly more than any other event) has become the victim of fake AI pictures of celebrities – famously, in 2024, a photo of Katy Perry apparently on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York went viral, despite the fact she didn’t even attend that year. Even Katy’s mum got fooled by the image!
And, of course, this year was no different, with plenty of AI generated imagery circling the internet.
Many people will know that, pretty much every year, a fake image of Jason Derulo falling down the stairs at the Met goes viral for laughs.
However, now, some of these AI pictures look so damn real that you could easily get tricked (in fact, some of us here at WHO fell for one or two of them…).
This year’s theme was “Costume Art”, and the official dress code is “Fashion is Art”, with guests encouraged to use art as the inspiration for their looks.
Here are some of the images of celebrities that tricked the internet:
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga sadly didn’t attend the Met Gala this year, so fans created photos of her there instead.
Miley Cyrus
One fan created an image of Miley Cyrus at the event wearing a dress that was inspired by one of her Hannah Montana looks.
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj is rumoured not to have been invited due to some of her political comments, with some rumours suggesting she was even banned from attending.
But that didn’t stop the AI version of her from posing on the carpet!
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner attended the Met Gala this year, and to be fair, it wasn’t too different to what this AI version of her wore (though it does feel a lot closer to Heidi Klum’s look!).
Camila Cabello
Camila Cabello was rumoured to attend, but in the end, she didn’t make an appearance. This AI image could have fooled a lot of people, though!
Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato didn’t make it this year, so a fan created this look for her:
Ariana Grande
While we would have loved to see Ariana Grande at this year’s Met Gala, sadly, she did not, and these photos could have tricked us!
