When will Michael release in Australia?
After a few hiccups and delays in premiering, the date has finally been set.
Michael will release in Australian cinemas on April 23, 2026, as per HOYTS, Event Cinemas, and Village Cinemas.

What will the Michael Jackson biopic be about?
The biopic promises to be a thriller outlining the life of the late Michael Jackson. Tracing his roots in The Jackson Five, to his global success on the stage, it’ll also delve into all the trials and tribulations that emerged along the way.

It’s still unclear whether the film will detail the controversies that surrounded the singer’s name after the bombshell claims made in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland.

“The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fuelled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world,” the producers of Michael say in a synopsis.
Who is in the cast of Michael?
The Michael Jackson biopic is set to feature an all-star cast, including one of Michael’s own relatives.

Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, son of his brother Jermaine Jackson, will be playing the King of Pop in the film.
“It’s incredibly exciting to watch Jaafar bring Michael to life,” director Antoine Fuqua told Variety. “There was such a spiritual connection when I first met Jaafar, who has a natural ability to emulate Michael and such a great chemistry with the camera.”
Colman Domingo is set to play Michael’s father, Joe. Nia Long will play his mother, Katherine.

Actor Miles Teller will be playing the role of Michael’s lawyer and manager, John Branca. Kat Graham, meanwhile, will be taking on the task of iconic songstress Diana Ross.

The rest of the Jackson family is portrayed by Jamal R. Henderson as Jermaine, Tre Horton as Marlon, Rhyan Hill as Tito and David-Jones as Jackie.
What else has Jafaar Jackson been in?
Michael will mark Jafaar Jackson’s acting debut, with the 29-year-old telling his Instagram followers that he was “humbled” by the opportunity.
“I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life,” he wrote in a January 2023 post. “To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.”
Who is directing and producing the Michael Jackson biopic?
The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua, known for The Equalizer trilogy, Southpaw, Emancipation and several acclaimed music documentaries including What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali and Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers.
“The first films of my career were music videos, and I still feel that combining film and music are a deep part of who I am,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson. I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work – the first Black artist to play in heavy rotation on MTV.”
“His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible.”
The script comes from Oscar nominee and Tony winner John Logan, with Graham King (who produced Bohemian Rhapsody) producing alongside John Branca and John McClain, the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate.
