There’s nothing like being reminded of your worst score over dinner. Sheridan and Ted found themselves back in the firing line on My Kitchen Rules, as judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge repeatedly asked contestants to compare their food with Harrison and Oliver’s.

And Angus and Simon weren’t about to sugar-coat their opinions.

As the judges pushed the contestants to compare the Gatecrashers’ meals, Alisha and Deanne and Angus and Simon repeatedly praised Harrison and Oliver’s food. At one point, Alisha and Deanne even told Sheridan and Ted that the newcomers were beating them, before declaring Harrison and Oliver’s menu their favourite of the night.

The comparisons made for some uncomfortable moments around the table, with the episode’s edit suggesting the praise was getting under Sheridan and Ted’s skin.

But speaking to WHO, Angus and Simon said they had no problem with the constant comparisons. In fact, they reckoned Sheridan and Ted had a “chip on their shoulder” about their score.

Angus and Simon say Sheridan and Ted took the criticism personally

For Angus and Simon, the comparisons were simply part of the competition. They felt Sheridan and Ted were still dwelling on their disappointing score, rather than accepting the feedback and moving on.

“It was fine because I seriously think that Sheridan and Ted had a bit of a chip on their shoulder about their score,” they told WHO. “And so that comparison stuff is us saying, this is how it’s better or this is how it’s worse to your food.”

For Angus and Simon, comparing the dishes was simply part of the competition. They argued that contestants needed to assess more than just technique when deciding which meals impressed them.

“We’re all in the same competition. We’re all trying to score equally, or at least the technique used, we’re not really assessing the technique here. It’s not like 90% technique, 10% flavour,” they said.

“It needs to be a balance of both. And their food was a little underwhelming, which is why they got the scores that they got.”

‘It was bland. It tastes like absolutely nothing‘

Angus and Simon had plenty more to say about Sheridan and Ted’s cooking, and they didn’t exactly mince their words. The pair felt the mother-and-son duo had overestimated how well their Instant Restaurant went, saying they had an “inflated sense” of their cooking.

They also reckoned Sheridan and Ted struggled to let criticism go.

“And the problem was that they never let go of criticism, ever. They would wake up in cold sweats thinking of how someone criticised their meal. And it was just the truth.”

They laughed after that last remark, but when it came to the food, they weren’t joking.

“It was bland. It tastes like absolutely nothing.”

Ouch.

Sheridan and Ted might not agree with the comparisons, but Angus and Simon clearly aren’t holding back. And with the Gatecrashers now sizing each other up, things could get even spicier around the dinner table.
