Veronica and Piper know a thing or two about how vicious competition can be – after all, they’re beauty queens! The high-achieving mums met while doing the pageants rounds eight years ago – Veronica, 41, and mother of three kids was Mrs Australian International in 2012 and Piper, 35, mother of two kids, took the crown in 2015, the first pageant winner in Australian history to be crowned while pregnant.
They’ve been firm friends ever since.
It was Veronica’s decision to apply for the show, based on the pair’s shared love of cooking.
“We had cooked together many times and she thought it would be a fun experience,” Piper explains. “Veronica and I will bring hard work, dedication, and our passion for food to this competition. We cook with love and always give 100 percent.”
Both mums say they are extremely busy, but are looking forward to taking some time out of their day-to-day lives to compete in MKR.
“We compete in businesses, we compete in pageants, and the reason we succeed is because we have confidence and we really believe in ourselves,” says Piper, who models for the Home Shopping Channel. “You have to give 100 percent of yourself every time.”
Veronica, who works in retail, and who says she once wrote a book with Arnold Schwarzenegger (yes – really!), believes her and Piper will work well together in the kitchen.
“Piper is very confident in the kitchen,” she says. “We both balance each other out and know our roles in the kitchen – she loves doing the plating and being creative and I let her take the lead.”
Early promos for the show tell a different story, with rumours surfacing that the friends are set for some fiery clashes.
One of the things Piper says she may get frustrated with while competing is “Veronica’s South American feisty-ness.”
“Usually it’s my favourite thing about her, but sometimes her passion can fire her up and pots and pan can go flying in the kitchen,” she admits.
