After more than a decade of passion, peril and time travel, Outlander is preparing to say its final farewell.
In March, the eighth and final season of the fantasy romance will bring Claire and Jamie Fraser’s epic love story to a close, ending one of television’s most enduring sagas — a relationship that has survived centuries, wars and impossible odds.
As the countdown begins, fans are bracing themselves for heartbreak, answers and one last journey through the stones.

When does Outlander season 8 come out in Australia?
The final season of Outlander will premiere on March 7, 2026, with episodes releasing weekly.
Australian viewers will be able to stream season eight on Binge and Foxtel, where all previous seasons are also available for a full-series rewatch (emotionally recommended, but not required).
Is there a trailer?
Yes, and it’s doing emotional damage already.
Starz has released a teaser for the final season, and it’s very much a love letter to the entire series. The footage winds back through Claire and Jamie’s journey from the very beginning, reminding viewers just how much these two have endured to find their way back to each other — again and again.
Time, as always, plays a central role, and while the trailer celebrates their bond, it also hints that even the strongest love stories aren’t immune to fate.
Naturally, fans are already analysing every frame. Watch it below.
How many episodes are in the final season?
Season eight will consist of 10 episodes, bringing the series to a close after eight seasons.
Executive producer Maril Davis has previously explained that the creative team was focused on delivering an ending that felt true to the television series, even as Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series continues.
Gabaldon herself has shared that while the show’s ending differs from her novels, she was comfortable with the direction taken — reassuring news for fans worried about a rushed or unsatisfying farewell.
Who is in the Outlander season 8 cast?
Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan return, of course, as Claire and Jamie Fraser.
They’re joined by many familiar faces, including:
- Sophie Skelton as Brianna Fraser MacKenzie
- Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie
- John Bell as Young Ian Murray
- David Berry as Lord John Grey
Season eight will also introduce new characters as the story expands further into the Revolutionary era.
New cast members include Kieran Bew as retired British soldier Captain Charles Cunningham, Frances Tomelty as his mother Elspeth Cunningham, and Carla Woodcock as Amaranthus Grey — a new addition to the Grey family whose presence will ripple through the Frasers’ world.

What happened at the end of Outlander season 7?
Season seven left fans with plenty to process.
In the past, Jamie and Claire were deeply entangled in the Revolutionary War, with Jamie fighting for the rebellion and Claire’s work as a healer repeatedly placing her in danger. Their eventual return to Scotland promised safety — but peace proved fleeting.
In the 1980s timeline, Brianna and Roger faced mounting pressures around parenthood, marriage and the pull of history. Things took a dark turn when Rob Cameron uncovered letters left by Jamie and Claire, believing their son Jemmy was key to locating the Jacobite gold.
After Jemmy was kidnapped, Roger feared his son had travelled through the stones — only for the truth to emerge that Jemmy was hidden in the modern era. Brianna ultimately rescued her son, reuniting the family.
Elsewhere, Young Ian found new love while confronting deep grief, and Lord John Grey and William Ransom wrestled with complicated truths around identity, loyalty and family, with William edging closer to learning the truth about his parentage.
The biggest shock of all? The revelation that Faith, the daughter Claire and Jamie believed died at birth, may have survived — a mystery season eight may finally address.
