Friends star Pat Finn dies aged 60

Pat Finn, the actor known for his roles across some of television’s most popular sitcoms- including The Middle, Friends, Seinfeld and more has died aged 60 following a battle with cancer.

A representative for Pat confirmed to The Post that the actor passed away on Monday at 10:30 p.m.

“It is with profound sadness and grief that the Finn family announces the passing of beloved comedic actor, Pat Finn,” the rep said in a statement. “In 2022, Pat battled bladder cancer, went into remission, but the cancer returned and metastasised. He was a warrior in every sense of the word.”

Born in Evanston, Illinois, Pat attended Marquette University, where he played rugby alongside future Saturday Night Live star Chris Farley. The two became close friends and later lived together in Chicago after joining the famed Second City comedy troupe.

One of his earliest television roles came in 1995, when he starred as Dan Coleman in The George Wendt Show. The CBS sitcom was short-lived and cancelled after just six episodes.

Pat is survived by his wife Donna, whom he married in 1990, and their three children- Cassidy, Caitlin and Ryan. He is also remembered by his parents, five siblings and extended family.

With a career spanning decades, Pat Finn leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humour and memorable performances that made him a familiar and beloved face to television audiences.

Over the years, Pat became a reliable presence on television, appearing in shows such as Murphy Brown, Seinfeld, The Drew Carey Show and That ’70s Show. He also memorably played Dr. Roger, Monica’s boyfriend, in two episodes of Friends in 2000.

His additional TV credits included Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, House, Marvin Marvin, 2 Broke Girls and The Goldbergs.

Pat was best known for his recurring role as Bill Norwood on ABC’s The Middle, appearing in 23 episodes between 2011 and 2018.

The long-running sitcom followed a working-class family living in small-town Indiana and starred Patricia Heaton, Neil Flynn, Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher, Atticus Shafer, Chris Kattan and Daniella Bobadilla

In addition to television, Finn appeared in several films, including Dude, Where’s My Car?, Funky Monkey, Cloud 9, I Love You, Beth Cooper and It’s Complicated.

Following the news of his death, comedian Jeff Dye paid tribute to Finn on X, remembering him as both a performer and a close friend.

“I don’t like to be the guy who post pics with celebrities that pass. But this guy wasn’t just a celebrity to me. He was a friend,” Dye, 42, wrote. “One of the best dudes I knew with a PERFECT sense of humour. I love you Pat Finn and I’ll see again in the after, we can sing together and shake our heads about all the meannes in the used to be.
