If there’s one person in the entertainment industry who will never give up on chasing her dream, it’s Sydney based mum-of-two Prinnie Stevens. After competing in the second season of Australian Idol in 2004, Stevens entered the inaugural season of The Voice Australia, where she made it to the top four eight years later, before coming back as an All Star this season.
When asked why she’s taking another shot at being crowned winner of The Voice, Stevens laughs, “Because I’m insane!” But in reality, it’s her two daughters – Sania, 13, and her baby girl whose name she’s kept under wraps – that inspire her to keep trying. “I’m not afraid of putting myself out there,” the 29-year-old says.
“When you have a teenager and a young baby, I’m always thinking about how it can help them, and I think it’s just another representation of never giving up.”
And despite revealing, “I would love to have a boy,” the previous The Voice Kids co-host says, for now, she’s focusing on herself. “I believe as women we really need to be kind to ourselves because giving birth is a full-on thing and going straight back to work for me was really full-on, so I have to allow myself to heal and adjust,” she tells WHO. “I left 13 years in between these two and I’d love to have one more but not yet, I have to get in the right head space then have one.”
Regardless, the musical theatre star admits she has no idea how she manages to find time to juggle her music career while being a mum. “I think as women we just do it. It’s one of those things I’ll look back on and go, ‘How did I do that?’ But it’s all about balancing everything and being able to ask for help.” she says.
“The Voice has been amazing; my youngest was only 4 months and she was with me, ’cause I was still breastfeeding. Kelly [Rowland] was the best with my child.”
Speaking of this year’s coaches, Stevens says its “so different” to the first season. “I had Joel [Madden] and Keith Urban and Seal and Delta [Goodrem]. This year they’re a lot nicer – not that they were mean on ours, [but] I feel like our season was crazy,” Stevens admits. “Joel was always saying something that was out there, Seal is totally wacky, which is why we love him and [this season] it’s like the watered-down version.”
Regardless, the All Star says she’s thrilled to be on Rowland’s team now. “Kelly is just such a dream for me, ’cause she’s right where I want to be,” Stevens says. “I mean, you don’t get bigger or better than Destiny’s Child.” The singer adds, “I feel like our lives are similar we are both mums and do music. I mean, I’m not comparing myself to Destiny’s Child [Laughs], but Kelly is amazing.”
