The competition on Australian Idol is well and truly back for 2025, with this year’s contestants delivering some of the most standout vocal performances in the show’s history.
After travelling across the country, the judging panel, comprised of Amy Shark, Marcia Hines, and Kyle Sandilands, have hand-picked some of the nation’s best-undiscovered talent. After signing their way through the show’s knockout stages, the Top 8 contestants have proven they have what it takes to become Australia’s next singing star.
“This year, the bar has been set incredibly high,” Amy told Seven, adding, “I feel like I need to be firm. Surviving the music industry, especially now, is extremely challenging.”

Iilysh Retallick, 17
Culcairn, NSW
Following her rockstar transformation, 17-year-old Iilysh was ready to sing her way to a spot in the Top 8.
Taking to the stage with a performance of Sweet But Psycho, Iilysh wowed both the judges and the audience, with her standout vocals quickly landing her a spot in the next stage of the competition.

Emma Jones, 23
Canberra, ACT
Delivering her own take on Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven is a Place on Earth, 23-year-old Emma returned to the stage to sing one step closer to the grand finale.
With the audience on their feet, the strength of her performance also won over the viewers, with her fan vote landing her a coveted spot in the Australian Idol Top 8.

John Van Beek, 18
Perth, WA
Taking to the stage to perform The Script’s Breakeven, 18-year-old John’s performance once again impressed both the judges and the audience.
Despite landing in the bottom four ahead of the final sing-off, John’s second chance fortunately paid off and secured him a place in the Top 8.

Jaymon Bob, 22
Rockhampton, QLD
Taking to the stage with his guitar, 22-year-old Jaymon delivered an emotional performance of James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful.
Securing both the audience and the original singer’s tick of approval, Jaymon secured his place in the Top 8.

Marshall Hamburger, 19
Doonan, QLD
Performing Elton John’s hit Bennie and the Jets, 19-year-old Marshall quickly made the stage his own as he embodied Elton’s signature piano-playing charisma.
With his retro rocker transformation fully completed, the judges praised his star-power-packed performance as he progressed to the next stage of the competition.

Jake Whittaker, 29
Stockleigh, QLD
Bringing his country charm to the stage, 29-year-old Jake impressed the judges with his electric performance of Tina Turner’s (Simply) The Best.
While the public vote may have placed him at risk of elimination, his second performance proved that he had the star power worthy of the Top 8.

Gisella Colletti, 16
Perth, WA
Delivering yet another standout performance, 16-year-old Gisella was marked safe from the public vote, with the judges voting to send her straight through to the Top 8.

William Le Brun, 21
Melbourne, VIC
After bringing his signature old-school swing to his rendition of Eagle Rock, 21-year-old William’s unique singing style immediately won over the judges.
Fortunately for William, the audience were equally as impressed by his performance, with the public voting to send him through to the Top 8.
