Big Brother Australia 2026 has introduced us to the perfect mix of wholesome, genuine, and slightly (or perhaps, very) controversial housemates this year, and the Australian public is loving every minute.

From Anita getting a new tooth to Ryan and Tahlia’s sibling secret finally being revealed, the first week of the show has already raised the contestants’ suspicions, reminding the house that everyone is in the game to win.

However, one of the biggest (and bravest) moments from the night happened after the BBAU Awards, where the housemates voted for who they believed was the winner of categories ranging from “most annoying” to “biggest attention seeker”.

At the table, Ebony — who has quickly become a top contender for eviction among fans online — made some controversial comments that left many of the housemates with a sour taste in their mouths.

This led Charity to have a chat with Ebony, and it quickly skyrocketed her popularity with viewers.

Speaking to WHO before entering the house, Charity revealed that conversations like this with Ebony are the reason she came on the show in the first place.

What controversial comment did Ebony say on Big Brother Australia?

Ebony swept the BBAU Awards, receiving the awards for the “rudest housemate”, “fakest housemate”, the “worst first impression”, and the “most annoying”.

When she asked why she received these awards, Charity pointed out that it’s likely because Ebony had been calling everyone “peasants” and “poor”, after which Phoebe added that she has also called them “hobos”.

To this, Ebony doubled down, saying they “are hobos”.

“I do love you, you’re gorgeous, but you’re hobos,” she said at the table, followed by some awkward laughs and side-eyes. “I’ll take the award for that. That’s fine, it’s true.”

After this, Charity pulled Ebony aside to remind her that this behaviour is simply not on.

“I feel like you didn’t just offend me, you offended some of the other housemates,” Charity explained. “So you owe not just me, the house, an apology, but Australia an apology.

“Just so you can be socially aware of what you say, because at the end of the day, we all come from different backgrounds. You don’t know what walk I’ve done, unless you’ve taken the time to learn my story. Just be aware!”

After this conversation aired, the Australian public stood behind Charity, praising how she handled the conversation.

“Incredibly well explained and well handled,” one fan wrote on social media.

“GOD BLESS CHARITY,” another agreed.

“I like how receptive Ebony was to this conversation. Good on Charity for handling this so well. She explained it so clearly, and I hope that Ebony learns from this,” a third commented.

Charity came on the show for this very reason

Before entering the Big Brother house, Charity told WHO that her main goal from the experience was “for people to just know that there’s more to the South Sudanese community”.

“Coming from the hood, I want people to know that there are people like me who live there,” she said. “There are some really good people in the hood. I want them to see that side. Because I’ve been there for like 11 years now, and I actually love it.

“It’s my community – we all know each other.”
