The faithfuls’ winning streak has been stopped in its tracks, with the traitors — and audiences — having a deviously pleasant time smirking at their downfall on The Traitors.
The Block twins Luke and Josh Packham were on a traitor-hunting roll, being very vocal about their predictions and catching traitors Alvin Quah and Alex Nation two nights in a row. However, their success ended there.
After Luke confidently declared that he knew who the final traitor was, keeping the group on their toes all day, he ultimately fell short at the round table when he claimed it was Claudia Bonifazio (much to traitor Kirby Bentley’s, and frankly, everyone’s surprise).
“I know who it is, absolutely,” he said at breakfast that morning, putting the traitor “on notice”.
“This is my game.”
After Claudia announced that she was a faithful, exiting the show on a dramatic high and defending herself until the very end, Luke and the other faithfuls were in utter shock.
Speaking to WHO, Claudia confessed that she “loved that [she] got to leave with a bang” and revealed just how much Luke’s accusations blindsided her.
It just goes to show that confidence is only one half of the game…and actually being right is the other (sorry Luke).
Fans are relishing Luke’s downfall
While you’d think audiences watching The Traitors are rooting for the faithfuls, the opposite has been the case this year as fans have been loving Kirby’s gameplay and, more recently, have relished seeing Luke get it wrong (if only Claudia didn’t have to be the scapegoat).
“What a clanger from Luke who was on such a roll,” one fan wrote online. “I laughed when he said Claudia.”
“Kirby trying to hide her smile behind her fingers after Luke said Claudia’s name at the Round Table is burned into my brain and it makes me cackle every time I remember it,” another commented.
“I don’t want to sound mean but Luke has been so arrogant I’m glad his ego took a belt in this episode,” a third agreed. “And trying to take credit for getting rid of two Traitors when AJ got rid of Alvin and AJ was the reason Alex felt the need to remove herself from the game because he had gotten into her head.”
‘Confidence is contagious apparently’
After Alex was caught as a traitor, Luke was labelling himself one of the best traitor hunters the game has ever seen. Mind you, this was all while telling traitor Kirby that he trusted her completely (oh, to have the confidence of a man).
However, after catching two traitors, it’s natural that the others trusted his predictions.
“Confidence is contagious apparently,” Claudia said about how blindly the group agreed with the twins. “So I think that’s what made it push.”
“I think because he had like this imaginary crown on his head, because of the night before,” she said to WHO. “So everyone trusted him.
“We’re like, ‘Okay, well, obviously he’s a faithful, and he’s on the right path,’ and he’s come into this breakfast having this master plan in his head.”
Claudia joked about how firmly she supported and “trusted” Luke, convincing the other players to follow his judgement without realising he was about to accuse her.
“Dumb, so dumb,” she said, shaking her head. “And I should have understood that something was weird because he walked in a completely different person.
“I thought he had switched places with Josh or something, because I’m like, ‘That’s not Luke,’ but it didn’t click to me. I thought maybe he was going through something.”
Claudia added: “He had crazy eyes. It was a bit manic, and I think he did say he didn’t sleep the night before, so everything was very weird. It was a different person.”
Claudia was ‘blindsided’ by Luke’s accusation
After supporting and rallying behind Luke throughout the season, the last thing Claudia expected was for him to turn on her.
“I was so shocked. I was so blindsided,” she said. “I thought he was going to say Keria or Kirby, and I’m like, ‘Okay, yeah, perfect, let’s get onto them.
“And then he said it, and I thought I heard it wrong – I’m like, ‘There’s no way.'”
Despite being caught off guard, Claudia loved having the opportunity to defend herself.
“As soon as he said it – you know when you’re so free, and you’re like ‘I’ve got nothing to hide’? – I was so ready for my statement of why I was a faithful,” she confessed. “But it was a losing game.”
