To say Sally’s (Catherine Shepherd) existence is pathetic would be to massively understate things. In new HBO comedy series Sally4Ever, the titular character’s home life is safe and uneventful, her boyfriend couldn’t be more dull if he tried and her workplace makes working in a library look like a riot – and she’s fairly miserable as a result. Watch the trailer below.

Enter Emma (played by series creator Julia Davis), a wild free spirit who rocks her world. As Sally is drawn into a fling with the nightclub singer, she finds herself doing things she never would have contemplated previously – and most of us wouldn’t dream of doing, which makes the series an inspiration and a life lesson rolled into one.

Full of the type of cringeworthy comedy the British do so well, Sally4Ever also features some of the oddest NSFW scenes ever captured on film. Might be one to watch in the safety of your own home rather than on the train with someone looking over your shoulder. Or, taking Sally’s lead, you could cut loose and shock people yourself. (Starts Tues., Feb. 5 at 7.30pm; Fox Showcase) 3.5 stars
