Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show was full of surprises and the biggest of them all was the real-life wedding that took place.

Yes… it was real.

Amongst all the political tension, celebrity cameos and guest performers, the bride and groom on our screens were actually getting married on one of the biggest stages in entertainment and sport.

Bad Bunny’s representatives confirmed to a number of US outlets that the couple invited the artist to their wedding, but instead, he invited them to be a part of the Halftime Show.

He even served as their witness and signed their marriage certificate, making it the first-ever Halftime Show to include a real-life wedding.

One of the most politically-charged Super Bowl Halftime Shows

This year’s Halftime Show was one of the most politically-charged performances in Super Bowl history.

Immigration is a contentious topic at the moment in the US, with the federal government ramping up Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in recent months.

After the NFL announced Bad Bunny as the performer for the Halftime Show, the league (and Bad Bunny himself) received swift backlash, with the Puerto Rican artist openly advocating for the rights of immigrants and speaking up against the US government’s behaviour.

One of the loudest voices complaining about the decision to have Bad Bunny perform was President Donald Trump. He claimed he had never heard of the artist (who is one of the most streamed in the world) before the Super Bowl, and then called his performance a “slap in the face” after Bad Bunny incorporated many Puerto Rican and South American themes in the Halftime Show.

It’s also the first in the NFL’s 60-year history that was performed mostly in Spanish.

Did Bad Bunny hint at the wedding in his Grammys speech?

While it is unknown exactly why Bad Bunny invited the couple to have their special moment during the Super Bowl Halftime Show, it serves as a powerful message – one he may have hinted at during his Grammys speech.

While accepting his award for Best Album of the Year for Debí Tirar Más Fotos on February 1, Bad Bunny said very few things in English, largely accepting his award in Spanish. However, he did say this.

“Hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.”

Could that be the message he was trying to get across with the wedding during the Halftime Show?

We’ll leave the answer up to you.
