With hours and hours of renovations whittled down to short nightly episodes, it’s no surprise we don’t see everything happening on The Block. However, one moment during Wednesday night’s episode prompted WHO to ask Jolene what she thought of Lisa, and it unearthed a whole plotline fans are oblivious to.
Jolene claimed Lisa won just because she’s pregnant
Okay, quick recap. On Wednesday, one member of each team was tasked with decorating one of five Freedom couches while married couple Laura Byrne and Matty J (who are popular media personalities) watched on with Shelley.
After the contestants ran to nab their couch of choice (with Tayla telling pregnant Lisa to “find another one” after they picked the same couch), they had only five minutes to decorate their lounge before being judged.
The mini challenge was judged by Freedom loyalty members, and after the moment between Tayla and Lisa played out, it seems those members (and Matty J) decided to help Lisa when it came to decorating her couch.
While all the contestants received help during the five-minute mad-dash from the MyFreedom members, there was definitely a disproportionate amount of help for Lisa as more people dragged furniture and interiors to her space.
She ultimately won the challenge, and secured an additional $5,000 for her and Rosco’s renovations.
“No I didn’t win,” Jolene told Adam when he asked about the mini challenge. “The pregnant lady won because everyone helped the pregnant lady.”
In response, Adam pretended to imitate Lisa.
“Aw I’m pregnant, help me,” Adam said, pretending to rock a baby in his arms.
Jolene and Lisa are ‘pretty good friends’
Jolene told WHO that it doesn’t play out on screen, but her and Lisa actually grew really close during the season, explaining they have a lot in common.
When asked if Jolene thought Lisa won because she was pregnant, she responded with a resounding no.
“Not at all. Lisa and I actually drove to that challenge together. By this stage, we’d become pretty good friends,” she said.
“We laughed about it, and she did really well. Everyone jumped in and helped everybody, so there was no extra favouritism or anything,” she continued.
Jolene explained the two contestants bonded over being mothers and their “love for the outdoors”.
“Even though our kids are at totally different ends of the spectrum, you know, they’ve got little ones, and we’ve got old ones. But I think just, what you see with Lisa and Roscoe is what you get. We just kind of had each other’s back, no matter what.
“They are quite humble people.”
It’s unclear why the friendship hasn’t been visible to viewers yet on screen, but Adam and Jolene did admit you often “don’t know what’s going on” with the other contestants during renovations, and most of the bonding moments between contestants happened back in the share-house when little to no renovations were happening.
