If there’s one thing Tayla knows how to do on The Block, it’s get people talking. The House 5 contestant has been one of the season’s most talked-about personalities, but that attention hasn’t always been positive. She’s faced plenty of criticism from viewers over her outspoken personality and big reactions.
But now, the tide might be turning. After a heated clash with Chantel over a pool tile mix-up, some fans are coming to Tayla’s defence, with viewers arguing she deserves an apology. And honestly, who would have thought a few pool tiles could change the conversation?
What happened between Tayla and Chantel?
Things kicked off when Tayla discovered that Chantel and Wyatt had tiled their entire pool with the tiles intended for House 5. Chantel initially thought they were a bad batch, only to discover they were the tiles Tayla had chosen.
“I just thought they were a bad batch,” Chantel explained. “Turns out, Tayla picked those tiles.”
Tayla was furious when she discovered what had happened.
“I’m so f—ing mad right now. I can’t believe this, how did this happen?” she said.
Understandably furious, Tayla confronted Chantel and demanded she “take them off”.
Chantel, however, was having absolutely none of it. With time running out, she refused to rip out the tiles and start again, telling Tayla, “I’m not taking them off.”
Later, Chantel laughed about the whole ordeal in a piece to camera, calling Tayla a “little Pomeranian”. We’re not so sure Tayla would have found the funny side of the pool tile debacle, though.
The Block fans are rallying behind Tayla
After weeks of criticism, some viewers are suddenly seeing Tayla’s side of things. One fan argued that she deserved an apology, and wanted it delivered in front of the cameras.
“Tayla deserved a face-to-face apology, and in front of the cameras,” they wrote. “When you publicly insult someone, you publicly apologise. Once again Tayla being the bigger person. Good for her.”
Another viewer praised Tayla for showing good sportsmanship towards her fellow contestants, regardless of the competition.
“One thing about Tayla, no matter who wins, she always congratulates them doesn’t speak nasty about any one,” they commented.
Others were frustrated by how the confrontation played out, with one fan saying they felt for Tayla as Chantel and the others laughed.
“The confrontation between Tayla and Chantel pissed me off,” they wrote. “I really felt for Tayla, she was rightfully upset and Chantel and everyone just laughed like a bunch of mean girls.”
Of course, not everyone will suddenly be Team Tayla. But the comments show that this time, at least, some viewers are questioning how she was treated rather than just criticising her reaction.
