Australia loves a TV talent show, especially when there’s singing involved!
But The Masked Singer which, premiered on Channel 10 on Monday night, has fans talking for all the wrong reasons.
The show, which sees 12 celebrities face off against each other as they perform anonymously in elaborate costumes (including a lion, dragon, octopus, monster, wolf, unicorn and prawn costume), has left some viewers confused around one major detail – whether or not the masked singers are actually singing “live”.
Confirmed! Audience members are removed from studio before celebs are revealed to avoid spoilers! Watch the ‘fake reactions’ as the Lorikeet is revealed as Brett Lee!
And while the official stance from Channel 10 is that the artists behind the costumes are singing live, fans aren’t entirely convinced.
“So im confused – how is this live?” wrote one user.
“Hey #MaskedSingerAU, why give mics when they’re masked, they’re surely not singing live then?!” tweeted another.
Others viewers were upset that The Masked Singer was all just a farce for TV ratings.
“Everyone knows that no one in singing live on this sh*t right? Literally the worst show on TV,” said one user.
The celeb singers are judged by a star panel, which for the Australian show includes Lindsay Lohan, Dannii Minogue, Jackie O Henderson and Dave Hughes, with the show hosted by Bachelor favourite Osher Gusnberg.

And panellist Jackie O is convinced the singers are performing live.
“I’ve seen a set malfunction happen and something fell on one of the singers and the singing stopped straight away,” Jackie told The Advertiser.
“They are singing live – 100 per cent fact.”
