Combine a bunch of good looking young actors together and a glistening, picturesque backdrop of a beach, and it’s almost a fool-proof formula for success on an Aussie teen show.
Add in a hint of drama, love triangles and a lot of killer surfing moves and it’s no wonder viewers couldn’t tear their eyes away from Blue Water High.
WATCH: Adam Saunders in Blue Water High
The series, which originally ran on both ABC and Foxtel and spanned three seasons from 2005 to 2008, followed high school students who had scored a year-long spot at the Solar Blue surf academy.
It became the launching pad for acclaimed actors like Rebecca Breeds and Ryan Corr. But they weren’t the only ones who soared to great acting heights and others went on to big things while some left the acting industry entirely.
From heartthrob Heath (Adam Saunders) to the cute-as-a-button Fiona “Fly” Watson, scroll on to see what the cast of Blue Water High are up to now!
KATE BELL
Actress Kate Bell was a rarity on Blue Water High, in that her character Bec Sanderson actually was able to stay more than one season in a main role! After her time on the show came to an end, Kate went on to appear in long-running soaps Neighbours and Home and Away as well as 2010 war mini-series The Pacific. Her last acting role listed on IMDB was 2011’s The Cup which follows 2002’s dramatic Melbourne Cup race.
KHAN CHITTENDEN
Aptly nicknamed “Edge” Dean Edgely was an aggressive and competitive teenager portrayed by Khan Chittenden. In arguably his most famous role post-Blue Water High, Khan stepped it up a notch to embody murderous gangster, Gunman Frank Green in 2011’s Underbelly: Razor. He’s also appeared in Paper Giants: Magazine Wars, Sisters of War and Home and Away. Next up, Khan can be seen in new projects The Last Ark and Rhapsody of Love.
CHRIS FOY
While Chris Foy stole hearts on Blue Water High’s season one as smart surfer Matt Leyland, these days he’s getting people’s hearts pumping in a completely different way! These days, Chris is the head coach and owner of a functional fitness venture in Sydney and is often sharing motivational fitness and wellbeing tips on his Instagram.
SOPHIE LUCK
Ah, the young whippersnapper, Fly! As Fiona “Fly” Watson, Sophie Luck’s character was the baby of the Solar Blue family in season one. Now, the actress is all grown up and recently announced her engagement to new fiancé Calle Ekehov.
ADAM SAUNDERS
Actor Adam Saunders cemented his heartthrob status as Heath Carrol in the OG season of Blue Water High and returned for several eps in season two. Now 34, Adam runs his own video production and photography agency, Killa Kreative, and sports a much edgier – but equally attractive – aesthetic in photos that appear on his Instagram account.
TAHNYA MACMANUS (NEE TOZZI)
As Perry Lawe, Tahyna MacManus (née Tozzi) was the blonde bombshell that was impossibly stunning and equally as skilled when she hit the surf. Moving on from her time on Blue Water High, the actress nabbed roles in productions such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, CSI: NY and Charlie’s Angels. She married dancer-turned-Studio 10 host Tristan MacManus in 2014 and the pair endured three miscarriages in four years. Tahyna went on to document the devastating experience in feature documentary Misunderstandings of Miscarriage, released in 2020. The couple also shares two children and Tahyna also launched The Australian Women’s Film Festival alongside Kelly Tomasich.
MARTIN LYNES
Martin Lynes played Craig “Simmo” Simmonds, an ex-pro surfer who ran the surf academy Solar Blue. The actor was forced out of the industry in disgrace when he was sentenced to five years jail in 2018 after being found guilty of aggravated sexual assault.
RYAN CORR
Blue Water High’s second season meant a whole new cast of fresh faces and among them was a young Ryan Corr as Eric Tanner! The actor has since gone on to become one of Australia’s most recognised stars after being thrust well and truly into the limelight with a role on hit Channel Seven series Packed To The Rafters. After Rafters, he varied his CV by taking on jobs on everything from Wolf Creek 2 and Love Child to The Water Diviner and Holding the Man to Bloom and Cleverman. Ryan was most recently seen in the ABC drama Wakefield, set in a Blue Mountains mental health facility.
JAMES SORENSEN
Talk about a career change! Despite his acting career looking promising, James Sorensen (who played Michael “Mike” Kruze in season two of Blue Water High) turned his back on the industry after a successful stint on Neighbours. He joined the army – which was a longheld dream of his – before being forced to withdraw due to injury. Not one to rest on his laurels, James went on to study medicine and became a doctor!
REBECCA BREEDS
If you don’t recognise this name, you may very well have been living under a rock in the Aussie TV world! In season three of Blue Water High, Rebecca Breeds was playing surfer Cassie Cometti but it was on Home and Away as Ruby Buckton from 2008 to 2012 that the actress really became well known. Bec is now based in the US with her former Home and Away co-star and husband Luke Mitchell. The actress’ star power continued to rise with Bec scoring gigs in Pretty Little Liars and The Originals. Bec can currently be seen in her biggest role to date: Clarice Starling in the Silence of The Lambs sequel Clarice.
KAIN O’KEEFFE
Kain O’Keefe impressed Blue Water High fans with his turn as surfer Guy Spender. Since wrapping up the series, Kain made the move to Hollywood and is part of the Aussie expat pack in Los Angeles that includes former BWH co-star Rebecca Breeds as well as Home and Away co-stars and firm friends in real life, Luke Mitchell, Todd Lasance and Lincoln Younes. After Blue Water High, Kain went on to appear in Packed To The Rafters, Home and Away, Underbelly and 33 Postcards.
LACHLAN BUCHANAN
Currently killing it on Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off, Station 19, Lachlan Buchanan continues to find success Stateside. But fans may forget he originally was part of Blue Water High’s season three cohort, playing Charley Prince. Among his acting credits since chasing the Hollywood dream are roles on Young & The Restless, Pretty Little Liars, Teen Wolf, Criminal Minds, Fuller House and Dynasty.
EKA DARVILLE
Embodying gentically blessed surfer Adam Bridge in season three, Eka Darville no doubt had teenagers pinning his photo to their walls back in his Blue Water High days. Like many of his former Blue Water High co-stars, Eka pursued further acting roles in the States, and nabbed gigs in high profile projects such as Terra Nova, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Jessica Jones and The Defenders.
CARIBA HEINE
In the final season of Blue Water High, Cariba Heine plays Bridget Sanchez who ultimately wins the end-of-year surfing competition alongside Eka Darville’s character Adam Bridge. But instead of taking the prize of joining the Pro Circuit, Bridget opted to go to university instead. After Blue Water High, Cariba – who is also known for her role on H20: Just Add Water – went on to appear in Dance Academy, Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War, Home and Away and US series Designated Survivor. Her most recent gig was 2020’s The Secrets She Keeps.
CRAIG HORNER
After Simmo was booted from Solar Blue, Craig Horner’s character Garry Miller became the surf academy’s trainer in Blue Water High’s final season. Putting his Blue Water High surfing days behind him, Craig has since had roles in Legend of The Seeker, Hindsight, Once Upon a Time and Cuddle Buddies. Next on the horizon, Craig will soon be seen in 2021 rom com, This Little Love of Mine.
