TV favourite Ellen DeGeneres has confessed that she’s seriously considering quitting her hit talk show, with the enthusiastic encouragement of her Aussie wife Portia de Rossi.

In an interview with the New York Times, Ellen revealed that while she is contracted to stay on the show until 2020, she’s close to declining extending her contract.

The star says her brother has been encouraging her to stay on as a positive force in these politically divided times, but she’s still considering pulling the pin.

‘She gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop,’ Ellen says of her wife’s wish that she wraps the show up.

Portia insists the star could be much more than her chat show affords her.

‘I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and standup that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity,’ she told the Times. ‘There are other things she could tackle.

‘I don’t see the end of her show as her career ending.’

Ellen – who is well known in Hollywood circles to be a much more emotionally nuanced person than the consistently sunny figure seen on her show – agrees that she has the potential to be more, including doing ‘someone unappealing’ on screen.
